Dear KJMS Families,

As National School Counselor Week draws to a close, we hope you will join us in thanking our counseling and clinical staff for all that they do to support our students. As previously noted, counselors are hard at work connecting first with 8th graders, and then with 7th graders regarding Course Selection for next school year.

If you have questions about the process or courses, consider using this as an opportunity to let your student practice their advocacy skills. Help your student write down their questions, and remind them to ask their questions when they meet individually with their counselor. You are also welcome to connect directly (links listed below) with your child’s counselor. If you do, be sure to wish them a Happy School Counselor Week!

Here is a list of our AWESOME counselors:

Dayle Ranallo (Hokies & Panthers Team)

Curtiss Barnes ( Spartans & Cavaliers Team)

Friday Oeur (Patriots & Nighthawks Team)

Tyisha Williamson (Captains & Highlanders Team)

Reminder: One Last Picture Make-Up Day

We have scheduled one last picture make-up day for Thursday, February 17. Only the following students are invited and able to have retakes:

  • Absent on any of our previous picture days (9/23 and/or 9/24)
  • Students new to KJMS since November 4
  • Students who did not participate in the November 4 retakes

Please complete the form below if your child meets one of these circumstances, and he/she will be given a pass to have their picture retaken.  If you purchased pictures (original set), please be sure to send them in with your student to give to the photographer on February 17.

Attendance

If a student will be absent or arriving late to school, parents or guardians should always report the details of the absence to the school. Teachers do not have access to mark a student excused for an absence, which is why it is imperative that parents contact the attendance office (instead of, or in addition to, the teacher) when their child is absent so we can mark them correctly.

To report an absence, parents have these options:

  1. Use the link to our online attendance form (preferred method) from the main page of the Katherine Johnson website
  2. Call the attendance line at 703-934-2424 being sure to include the spelling of your student’s last name and reason for the absence.

If your student will be picked up early for an appointment:
Please send them to the front office in the morning with a note stating the time of the dismissal.
Students will be given a pass to leave class and meet parents in the office. Parents should come to entrance #1, to the main office, with a photo ID to pick up their student for early dismissals.

For more information on the attendance policies, please visit the KJMS Attendance page.
