February- National Kindness Month

This month at Pine Spring, we have been celebrating Kindness Month. Our students have focused on reconnecting each other for the small acts of kindness that make our school such a special place each day. They are recording their act of kindness and posting them on our Kindness Olympics bulletin board. We encourage you to help them find acts of kindness at home and in our community.

Pine Spring PAWS Awards

Has someone at Pine Spring done something above and beyond? There are two great ways to share our team's impact on you, your child, or our community. You can submit a Pine Spring PAWS Award or an  FCPS Cares. Both are great ways to let our team know that they are making a difference for you and your child.

Yearbook Sales

If you would like to order a 2021-2022 Pine Spring yearbook, now is the time. We have extended the deadline. Orders are now open through February 28, 2022, by logging onto https://www.yearbookordercenter.com/ with school code 24808.

Kindergarten Registration

Do you have a child at home who will be five by September 30th? Please start your registration now. If you have any neighbors with little ones, please send this information to them as well. These are the 5 steps you need to take to register your child. If you have questions regarding kindergarten registration, please reach out to Ms. Breeden or call our main office at (571) 226-4400.

2022-2023 School Calendar

The 2022-23 school year calendar was approved at the January 27 School Board Meeting. This calendar focuses on instruction, and student and operational needs. The calendar is aligned with neighboring school districts and adds additional key observance days.

Most importantly, this calendar was developed with significant input from the FCPS community. Thank you to everyone who participated in the process through surveys, webinars, and participation in the feedback committee. This effort reflects the best effort of everyone the school calendar touches.

To find out more about next year’s school calendar, visit the FCPS website.

Vaccination Status

You may wish to voluntarily share your child’s COVID-19 vaccination information. However, we do not require your child’s vaccination information and no school employee will ask for your child’s vaccination status. The only exception is student-athletes, who are required to share their vaccination status to participate in their sport or activity.

If you would like to provide us with your child’s vaccination status, please bring your child’s COVID-19 vaccination card or a photocopy of the card to Ms. Breeden, our student registrar in the main office.

SOL Assessments for Grades 3-6

State assessments measure the extent to which students have learned the content and skills reflected in state standards. The format for state assessments vary by grade level and content area. These include:

Standards of Learning (SOL) standardized tests in reading, mathematics, and science; More information can be found on the SOL assessments webpage (https://www.fcps.edu/student-tests-and-assessments/student-assessment-details/sol-assessments);

Local alternative assessments (LAAs) including performance-based assessments (PBAs) completed as part of classroom instruction throughout the school year for science, writing, and social studies; More information can be found on the LAA and PBA webpage (https://www.fcps.edu/node/45043) .

Both SOL tests and LAAs provide information about student achievement, and student results are shared with families. Reporting methods and timing vary based on the assessment format for the grade level and content area, as noted in the table below.

Once a week, we will share an update if there were any COVID-19 positive cases confirmed in the school that week.

Potential close contacts of the positive case that are paused from in-person instruction and activities will continue to receive real time notifications.
