Welcome to Cub Run’s Administrative Assistant, Brittney Wood-Kalbaugh!

On Thursday, February 10, we welcome Brittney Wood-Kalbaugh as our new Administrative Assistant! Brittney is a graduate of Loudoun County Public Schools and comes from a long line of military veterans, including her brother, who served in the Marines for 5 years, and her husband, whom she recently married in October of 2021. She and her husband (and their cat, Lucy) currently live in Falls Church.

Brittney can't wait to get to know each and every student, staff member, and family at Cub Run. Welcome, Brittney!

Community Review of Elementary English Language Arts Basal Instructional Resources

Fairfax County Public Schools will adopt new Elementary School Language Arts Basal Instructional Resources for the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years.  A review committee composed of community members, administrators, and teachers will meet in February and March to review the instructional materials under consideration and community feedback.  Public review of the recommended materials is part of the process for selecting new resources.

Elementary English Language Arts basal instructional resources may be accessed in person and online January 31 through February 28, 2022.  Digital materials for public review and comment will be available here. Those reviewing instructional materials may complete an electronic comment sheet available here.  Hard copies of instructional materials will also be available in the lobby of Willow Oaks Administrative Center.

Willow Oaks is open each business day from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and extended hours will be provided until 7:00 p.m. on the following days:  February 3, February 10, February 17, and February 24, 2022.  All community feedback will be shared with the review committee and with School Board members before the vote at the School Board regular meeting.

Latest Health and Safety Guidance

A reminder for families that all Covid-related health information can be found in the FCPS Health and Safety Guidance Document.

Contact Tracing Updates

The Virginia Department of Health recently announced that contract tracing in schools may be limited only to outbreaks. However, the CDC continues to recommend contact tracing, in combination with testing, wearing a well-fitting mask, and quarantine and isolation, as effective strategies to identify people with COVID-19 (cases) and to reduce transmission.

FCPS has and continues to implement CDC recommendations, to the greatest extent practicable, to prevent or reduce the spread of COVID-19 in schools and to foster the continuation of in-person learning for students and staff. As a result, FCPS will continue contact tracing until further notice.

Testing

The FCPS optional COVID-19 testing program provides screening and diagnostic testing to students and staff. The CDC recommends school-based testing to limit the spread of COVID-19 and to keep school open safely.

Screening testing is used to identify unvaccinated, asymptomatic people who are COVID positive.

Diagnostic testing is provided for individuals who are symptomatic or identified as a close contact of someone diagnosed with COVID-19.

Details of both testing options are available on the FCPS COVID-19 Testing webpage.

Optional Screening Testing

Weekly COVID-19 screening testing for students is optional and requires parent/guardian consent. Screening testing is used to identify people with COVID-19 who are asymptomatic and do not have known, suspected, or reported exposure to COVID-19. For details about the optional screening testing program, visit the testing webpage
