News & Notes

Important Safety Reminders for Arrival and Dismissal

Please remember that all cars dropping off or picking up students should travel through the Kiss and Ride line. Administrators have noticed an uptick in parents using the exit entrance to drop off their students in the morning, including parking in the lot and walking children to the Kiss and Ride door or even letting children walk by themselves. This has led to safety issues and traffic delays, with Lane staff having to stop traffic for pedestrians crossing. We ask that you follow the Kiss and Ride line to drop off your student in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon. Please see the map below for details.

In addition, please remember that all students must be monitored by a family member until our doors open at 9:05 a.m. Students cannot be dropped off before that and left alone until staff come on duty at that time. Teachers and staff are often in meetings until we open the doors and are not available to monitor children prior to 9:05 a.m.

Thank you for your cooperation on these critical safety matters.

P.E. Kids Heart Challenge Continues Through February 20th; Elite Martial Arts Visit February 15th and 16th

Thank you to all of the families who are supporting our Kids Heart Challenge in P.E., both by being heart-healthy at home and by making a donation to support the work of the American Heart Association, the sponsors of the program. As mentioned previously, fundraising is not the focus of this activity, but if you’d like to make a contribution, please note the following:

  • All donations will be online.
  • The link for the Student Registration Site is http://www2.heart.org/goto/lane.
  • You can find information on how to register here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzllEZPtz1w.
  • The Challenge and donation period will run through February 20th.
  • Prizes will be distributed through Wednesday Folders (to decrease the importance of fundraising). Production/transportation has been slow, so not all prizes will be available immediately.

Students will continue to participate in Challenge activities in conjunction with the Rhythmic Activities Unit (Jump Rope) in P.E. If your family would like to join in the fun at home, work together to complete the Healthy Heart Bingo card by choosing heart-healthy activities to do at home.

And finally, we’d like to let you know that on Tuesday, February 15th and Wednesday, February 16th, Elite M. A. Centers (EMA) will visit Lane P. E. classes. EMA is a local martial arts studio that has been partnering up with our school since 2016 to reinforce the practice of respect and fitness through the teaching of martial arts. EMA instructors visit Lane’s P.E. classes once per year to teach the Korean-style of martial art called Taekwondo to the younger grades. Students learn basic skills while developing an appreciation for discipline, self-control, and goal-setting. Many Lane students and families are members at EMA through either Taekwondo classes or the after-school program, and all of us at Lane appreciate their partnership.

School Supply Donations Needed – Black Dry-Erase Markers

We intentionally kept individual school supply lists small this year to avoid asking families to purchase items we don’t use. Now, at the midpoint of the school year, we need a refill on one key item – black dry-erase markers. Those from the beginning of the year are drying out after lots of use, and we need to replace them for students to work on whiteboards during second semester.

If you are able to donate some black dry-erase markers, please drop them off in the school office or send them to school in a bag and ask your child to deliver them to the office.

Thank you, as always, for your generous support of learning at our school!
