In this Friday Message you will find:
Floris Families,
It was another great week, and we heard lots of positive comments on the less frigid weather. We enjoyed being outside more and even completed our February Fire Drill.
We enjoyed celebrating our School Counselors, Sarah de Kramer and James Duffield, throughout the week. National School Counseling Week, sponsored by ASCA, was created to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems and highlight the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success. We are so grateful for each of them and all they do for our Eagles.
Next week Floris will be celebrating Kindness Week. Please see below for some fun spirit ideas. Students and staff will be focusing on kindness and the P2 character trait of love throughout the week in different ways.
February is Black History Month, and the theme for 2022 is "Black Health and Wellness." The Library of Congress details how Carter G. Woodson successfully advocated for the creation of a Negro History Week in 1925 to raise awareness of African Americans’ contributions to civilization and the celebration was expanded to a month in 1976. Floris students learn about many ways African Americans have shaped and experienced life in the US, this month and all year long.
We look forward to seeing many of you at the PTA Meeting next Wednesday. Mr. Gordon Stokes, Principal of Rachel Carson Middle School, will be the guest speaker.
Have a fabulous weekend,
Holly Walker, Principal, hjwalker@fcps.edu
Jo Gordon, Acting Assistant Principal, jgordon@fcps.edu

Positivity Project
Week of Feb. 14-18: Love
What does Love mean? You value close relationships with others and being close to people. The character strength of love represents the way we think, feel, and behave towards the people with whom we have close relationships. When one person loves another person, that person: comforts and makes the other feel safe; sacrifices on the other’s behalf; supports the other during struggles; and places the others needs ahead of his/her own. If you love a person, that person makes you feel safe and secure. You can be yourself with that person. You miss that person when he/she is not around.
Why does it matter? Love is imperative to an individual’s happiness and fulfillment in life. It allows us to open up to another person and be vulnerable. That openness gives us the ability to learn and grow. Loving another person and sacrificing on his/her behalf produces positive emotions. And, it helps you access strengths – and feelings – you never knew you had.
Quote of the Week: “Love recognizes no barriers. It jumps hurdles, leaps fences, penetrates walls to arrive at its destination full of hope.” - Maya Angelou
