IAS Updates for tthe week of January 31, 2022

Dear IAS Families,

As we close out January and enter into the 3rd quarter of SY 2021-22, I wanted to say thank you for your support of Interagency Alternative Schools (IAS) and the students we serve.  Thank you most recently for your support of the academics of our students, your prompt attendance line messages, your caution regarding keeping your sick students home, and your adherence to FCPS’s current universal mask policies.

We are looking forward to a strong 3rd quarter.  During this quarter, you can expect information about IAS’s and FCPS’s summer school and summer programming, information about testing requirements, and more detailed information about the IAS graduation ceremonies coming up near the end of the school year.

As always, if you have questions or concerns, do not hesitate to reach out to us.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Knox, Administrator

Eugena Weaver, Director of Student Services

School Year 2022-23 Calendar Approved

The 2022-23 school year calendar was approved at the January 27 School Board Meeting. This calendar focuses on instruction, and student and operational needs. The calendar is aligned with neighboring school districts and adds additional key observance days.

Most importantly, this calendar was developed with significant input from the FCPS community. Thank you to everyone who participated in the process through surveys, webinars, and participation in the feedback committee. This effort reflects the best effort of everyone the school calendar touches.

To find out more about next year’s school calendar, visit the FCPS website.

Lunar New Year (Feb. 1)

The Lunar New Year is a holiday that marks the first new moon of the lunisolar calendar, which is the calendar traditionally used in many east Asian countries including China, Vietnam, Singapore and South Korea. In these and other Asian countries, it is one of the most important holidays of the year. The Lunar New Year is all about ushering in luck and prosperity with family. FCPS has designated Lunar New Year as a religious and cultural observance day designed to allow students the opportunity to miss school for observances not already designated as school holidays.
