Gives back

Crossfield Gives Back

It's that time again, Crossfield! On Friday, February 18th, our entire school will be participating in “Crossfield Gives Back"— an annual service project where all students will sort and pack 500 weekend packs of snacks and meals for food-insecure students. These packs will be distributed by Food for Others to students right here in Fairfax County. We are asking our generous Crossfield community to consider donating food to this great cause. You can find our Amazon wish list here, and please select Crossfield as your shipping address:

XfldGivesBack.org

Please feel free to share this link for food donations far and wide (neighborhoods, churches, local friends and family). This is an ambitious effort, but we know we can do it. Together, we can help fellow students in our community.

For more information, contact president@crossfieldpto.org

Thank you!

The Crossfield PTO

Snow Days

Future snow days in FCPS will be synchronous learning days. Students will need internet access and the ability to access sites such as Schoology to participate in lessons via Zoom.

Our Snow Day instruction will begin at 10:30am, with a midday break from 12:15-1:30 for all Crossfield students. Afternoon learning/assignments will be from 1:30-3:15.

We will send out an eNotify email reminder if a Snow Day is announced.

Jason's Deli Spirit Night

On Tuesday February 22 join us at Jason's Deli from 4-9 and 15% of your purchase will support the Crossfield PTO. Mention our spirit night in store, or use the QR code for your online order.  Please see the flyer for details.

attendance

Want to avoid the FCPS Attendance calls?

Please use our preferred method of absence reporting by going to the Crossfield Website and clicking on the blue ATTENDANCE box.  This process automatically notifies everyone in the front office of the absence.  The front office is responsible for accurate attendance reporting and upon receipt of this online submission they will forward the absence to the teacher.  Following this procedure will reduce the number of automated calls from the county. Thank you!

NATIONAL ASSESSMENT OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRESS

A group of our 4th-graders will represent thousands of others across the country on February 17!  Known as The Nation’s Report Card, NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress) is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what students in the United States know and can do in a variety of subjects. More info will be coming to parents of students invited to take this assessment.  Please contact our test coordinator, Lea Fadden, with questions.

K-2 Social Emotional Learning Screener

Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) commits to supporting all students’ mental wellness and social and emotional learning (SEL). The School Board has approved a screener to review students’ skills and experiences in these areas. FCPS staff will use the screener to identify strengths and needs for students in grades K-12. The screener provides information regarding students’ experiences and how staff can support their needs.

SEL skills include self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, relationship skills, and responsible decision making. The screener will review these skills, as well as students’ relationships, feelings of belonging, feelings about their school environment, and mood. These factors are critical to positive academic, social, and emotional success.

Students in grades K-2 will be screened in the winter (Jan. 25-Feb. 11) and spring. In these grade levels, teachers will complete a survey on their observations of students' skills and experiences. Students in grades 3-12 will be screened in the fall and spring. In these grade levels, students will reflect and report on their own skills and experiences. Screener data will only be accessible to teachers, administrators, and staff with legitimate educational interests. Results will be maintained in secure files and databases accessible only to these individuals. Screener results will be used with other data to inform practices for SEL skill development and mental wellness. Screener data will also help staff plan interventions for students with identified needs. Parents and guardians will receive an individualized report regarding their student’s screener results following each assessment window. School staff will be available to discuss results with families on planned support.

If you do not want your student to take part in the SEL screener,  please print, sign & return this opt-out form  to Lea Fadden. If you opted your student out in the fall, you do not need to fill out the form again.

More information, including a short video about the SEL screener in FCPS and the screener questions, can be found on the SEL Screener webpage https://www.fcps.edu/node/43892. Please contact your student's school counselor or the school's test coordinator (Lea Fadden) with questions.
