HORNET HAPPENINGS

January 28, 2022

Happy Weekend 01.28.22

Dear Halley Families,

Thank you for all of your flexibility as we navigate snow days, virtual days, teacher work-days and early dismissals. You have been wonderfully supportive and on top of all that we have asked of you. We love and appreciate our Halley families!!

Our teachers are working hard to meet the needs of each student and are doing a herculean job. We continue to be so proud and pleased of the extraordinary work they are doing to make sure learning stays a priority while also valuing relationships and community.  We love our Halley staff!

Thank you for continuing to work with us to ensure we keep our mitigation measures in place and for not sending your sick child to school. Our whole community is working together to ensure we keep everyone healthy and safe.

Let’s continue to move forward with grace and joy.  We thank you for partnering with us.

Blessings,

Mrs. Peerman, Mrs. Johnson-Tyler, and Mrs. Zamora

FCPS & Halley Elementary Continue Universal Masking

Halley Elementary thanks families in advance for continuing to adhere to FCPS Universal Masking requirements. As FCPS Superintendent, Dr. Brabrand, shared in Friday's communication:

In accordance with state law, our regulation requiring universal masking remains in place until further notice. Students will be required to comply with the requirements of Regulation 2109.2. Face masks are included in the student dress code and failure to comply remains an SR&R violation. Intentional removal of or refusal to wear a face covering during the times face coverings are required by all students will be treated as a violation of Regulation 2613. In addition, per federal guidelines, students must continue to wear masks at all times on school buses or other FCPS transportation.

We are working towards a day when we can begin to roll back these safety measures, including universal masking. But for right now, we must continue to protect and serve all our students, including our most vulnerable. More than anything else, these mitigation measures allow them to safely remain in our schools.

Daily Health Screening Required Please

Daily Health Screening 01.28.22

Thank you for your continued diligence in keeping your children home if they are sick or displaying any COVID-like symptoms as we navigate this latest surge. In addition, please note that if you are awaiting test results, please keep your child home - as noted on the screening questionnaire. We know some results have been delayed in the recent surge and appreciate your patience. One of the most important prevention strategies guidelines is screening students daily for any signs of illness prior to leaving home for school. Any student who is ill or presents with COVID-like symptoms is to remain at home.

The daily health screening questionnaire and all translated version can be found on our Health and Safety Guidance document at https://www.fcps.edu/return-school/health-and-safety-guidance-document.

This document provides the details of the policies and protocols related to COVID-19, and it is continually updated to align with public health guidance as it evolves during the school year. Daily completion of the health screening is done on an honor basis and does not need to be sent to the school. More information is available here.

Please remember to send your child to school with a well-fitted mask.  Thank you for your support.

Lightspeed Parent Report on Child’s Device Activity

FCPS has new tools to help parents and guardians know more about their child’s activity on any FCPS device. These tools are provided by Lightspeed, our internet content filtering service, at no cost to families. You may sign up for a weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites your child visited.

If you want more detailed information, sign up for the Internet Use Parent portal and log-in anytime to see more detail about your child’s browsing and “pause” access to the internet during non-school hours. Find out more and sign up for these services on our website.

PTO In The Know
PTO Dance Fit 01.28.21

Our Halley Dance Fit fundraiser will kick off in just 3 weeks on 2/15. Our goal is to raise $7,000 for funding the Playworks program and to strengthen our school community. We’ve asked our friends at Booster to power our fundraiser to make it more profitable, fun, and easy for everyone!

Here’s what all students can get excited about:

  • Fun, engaging character development lessons
  • A high-energy event to give our school a much-needed boost of fun!

If your family feels it’s not in the position to financially support the school, that’s ok. Families can actually support our school by also SHARING about our fundraiser with friends and family online. Sharing IS supporting.

Key dates to remember:
