MVHS Parent Roundtable Discussion and PTSA Meeting


The next MVHS Parent Roundtable Discussion will be Tuesday, February 15, 2022 from 6:30pm - 8:00pm and will follow the PTSA general business. Report Cards and Seventh Semester Transcripts


Second quarter has ended, report cards will be mailed home the week of February 1st and are now available electronically to parents/guardians with ParentVue accounts.  

Seniors, your 7th semester transcripts will be made available to Student Services the week of February 8, 2022.  Seventh semester transcripts will be processed and sent to your colleges no later than February 17, 2022 .  It may take up to two weeks for colleges to receive and process your transcripts.  Thank you for your patience as we complete this very important step in the college application process.

Explore Nursing with MVHS Alumni

2/2/22 @ 3:30pm (Hybrid)

2 MVHS alumni who graduated in 2020 are returning to share with you their first two years of RN school. One attends NOVA the other GMU - both enrolled into nursing RN programs. Both will receive a BSN by 2024 with licensure as an RN.  All current students in grades 9-12 interested in nursing or becoming a nurse are welcome.  This is a wonderful time to ask questions about nursing programs and how to prepare. FCPS Instruction 2 Industry CareerExpo Event for High School Students (Virtual)       

This opportunity is for all high school students and will take place February 14 - 17, 2022. Princeton Review hosting free sessions for high school students (virtual).  The Princeton Review is excited to introduce a free upcoming College Admissions Week. From February 7th to February 11th, PR is hosting information sessions discussing everything students need to know about college admissions and what colleges are looking for in applicants. FCPS Gap Year Fair (Virtual) FCPS is co-hosting a virtual gap year fair with Go Overseas on February 17th from 6:30pm - 9:00pm. Genesys Works Recruitment for Juniors

This is an awesome senior year internship which earns you a credit on your transcript.   Flyer to view  (fcpsschools.net access required).  Students can work as an intern with a partner company during their senior year part time in afternoons, after completion of a summer training.  If interested, complete the Online Student Interest Link, Genesys Works will have an I.T. and Business career track this year!

ASVAB SIGN UP

 Any Senior who plans to enlist in the military, needs to take an ASVAB.  MVHS is offering the ASVAB on Thursday, March 3, 2022 and Tuesday, April 12, 2022. Please Register Here

FINANCIAL AID AND SCHOLARSHIPS


Ms. Rowsey’s Weekly Schedule (FAFSA help)

Ms. Katrina Rowsey, our MVHS Financial Aid Champion is available to meet with students and families virtually through the Career Center.  She can also be reached via email at khrowsey@fcps.edu. VASA Application open - for undocumented, DACA, TPS SENIORS  Deadline March 3 Financial Support for College - The Virginia Alternate State Application (which will be known as VASA) is accepting applications so that undocumented, DACA, TPS or other Seniors who don’t qualify for the FAFSA, may now be considered for state financial aid. This is a new opportunity and the application was just released in January 2022!  Link to Apply   Deadline: March 1st

Instructions: If you are eligible for FAFSA and have applied, you can’t apply for VASA.  You are only able to use VASA funding for Virginia schools.

  • You will create an account with a personal email account (no school accounts please!) and verify it. Save the password in a safe place.
  • On parent section, make sure you list a different email than yours
  • For male students between ages of 18-25, you must register for Selective Service at this time. This may change in the future. If you are not registered, please visit www.sss.gov to register. 
  • You will need to have the 2020 federal income tax return to complete the financial section. If parents don’t have paid taxes, in absence it is up to the institution to verify income, regarding.  Alternate documents may be given by the institution directly.

Edison Academy Open House


The Edison Academy Open House event that was scheduled for January 29th was cancelled due to weather.  It is rescheduled for Saturday, February 5th from 10:00am – 1:00pm.  More information to come soon.
