COVID Testing For Students

Students may obtain COVID-19 diagnostic testing at six drive-through sites in Fairfax County. Diagnostic testing is provided for anyone who has symptoms or is identified as a close contact of someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19.

COVID-19 testing helps us reduce the virus’ spread and keep our schools safe places for all students to learn. I encourage you to utilize our new diagnostic testing services as needed.

Appointments are not required for diagnostic testing but families must register in the secure online portal. When you register and provide consent for your child to be tested, they will also be added to Bailey's Upper Elementary School's screening testing pool. If you do not wish for them to be part of the weekly screening testing pool, simply log back into the online portal after your child’s test is complete and withdraw consent.

Students May Submit COVID Vaccination Status

You may wish to voluntarily share your child’s COVID-19 vaccination information. However, we do not require your child’s vaccination information and no school employee will ask for your child’s vaccination status. The only exception is student-athletes, who are required to share their vaccination status to participate in their sport or activity. 

If you would like to provide us with your child’s vaccination status, please bring your child’s COVID-19 vaccination card or a photocopy of the card to Ingrid Hernandez, our student registrar in the main office. COVID-19 vaccination documentation contains Protected Health Information and should not be emailed.

COVID-19 Case Notification Update

Many families are finding it stressful and overwhelming to receive a new COVID notification email every time there is a positive case in their child’s school. FCPS has updated our process to provide families some relief.

Once a week, either on Friday or the last day of school for the week, school leadership will share an update if there were any COVID-19 positive cases confirmed in the school that week. The FCPS COVID-19 Health Metrics webpage will still be updated daily for families who wish to know about cases in real time.

There were 0 confirmed cases of Covid-19 this week at Bailey’s Upper.

BUpper Weekly Parent Conversations 

Parents: Please Join Us Virtually On Monday, January 31st For Math Night

Join Ms. Mahmood for an evening of exploring how you can support your child’s learning of mathematics. She will share a variety of routines, tasks and games that can be engaging ways to reinforce students' strengths and reinforce math talk around strategies that build automaticity and efficiency.

Weekly Parent Conversations will occur virtually on Mondays, 7:00pm – 8:00pm. The themes will cover wellness, math, and language arts. Specific topics will be announced the Friday before in News You Choose.

(Spanish translator will be available*)  We look forward to “seeing” you for our Parent Night!!

February 7at 7:00 pm: Wellness: All About Emotions - School Counselors, Maya Lidell and Derek Ryan, will present how we teach students how to recognize their emotions and name them so that they can learn to manage their feelings and peacefully problem-solve peer conflicts.

February 28 at 7:00 pm: Math and Literacy: Join Ms. Mahmood, Ms. Lamm and Ms. Rabil for a fun night of math and literacy! 

March

March 7 at 7:00 pm: Wellness: Being Mindful - Teachers will present how we teach students to manage their emotions in school so you can use the same strategies at home! We will also present the MindUp curriculum that is taught here at Bailey’s Upper!

March 14 at 7:00 pm: Join Ms. Lamm and Ms. Morrissey for an enjoyable evening of listening to reading and discussion! We will share a beloved read-aloud and engage in a great discussion about the book. We will provide you with thought-provoking questions that you can use when you read any book with your child. Also, we will share other great books to read with your child and where to get them. 

March 21 at 7:00 pm Join Ms. Mahmood for an exciting evening of math!
