Celebrating African American History Month

Black History Month

In February, people all over the United States celebrate Black History Month—because Black history is American history.  Students deserve meaningful, sustained opportunities to learn about the experiences and contributions of Black and African American people year-round, and Black History Month is one opportunity to honor these diverse and important stories.

African American Read-In

The National African American Read-In is a groundbreaking effort to encourage communities to read together, centering African American books and authors. It was established in 1990 by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English to make literacy a significant part of Black History Month. (https://ncte.org/get-involved/african-american-read-in/)

We will celebrate the African American Read-In during the last week of February. (February 21st - 25th) We are looking for volunteers to come and read to our classes! (virtually or in person) If you’re interested in volunteering, please sign up using the sign up genius link. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090948AFAE22A0FD0-african

National Wear Red Day is Friday

February is American Heart Month, a time when everyone can focus on their cardiovascular health.

Family Liaison News

And here we are welcoming a new month, February, with all the positive vibes we can get!

Roald Dahl said: "If I had my way, I'd remove January from the calendar altogether and have an extra July instead."  I, too, think that would be nice, but I believe that Bush Hill students, families, faculty and staff did a great job starting the new year with a week-long of snow days, a call to duty for all employees and still aspiring with a big smile 😊

Thank you to everyone who has gone above and beyond normal duties to support our students.

Stay safe, warm and connected 😊
