Dear Families,
FCPS has called a virtual learning day for tomorrow due to forecasted inclement weather. This day is also an early-release day for the county.
The FCPS elementary school day will be held from 10:30 AM - 1:15 PM tomorrow. Below is tomorrow's CWES-specific schedule for ALL CWES CLASSES, K-6.
CWES 1/20 SCHEDULE
10:30-10:45 Morning Meeting*
10:45-11:30 Math or LA*
11:30-12:00 Lunch
12:00-12:45 Math or LA*
12:45-1:15 Asynchronous specials
*Synchronous = Your child should be LOGGED INTO ZOOM by 10:30 and again by 12:00 to access live teacher-led lessons.
How do students log into Zoom?
Students should log into Schoology at lms.fcps.edu using their FCPS username (ID#) and password.
Once in Schoology, students should look for their homeroom teacher’s Schoology Course.
Inside the homeroom Schoology course, students will find a ZOOM LINK for tomorrow. They should click the “Join” button.
How do students do asynchronous specials?
Students have choice for tomorrow's specials. A list of these choices will be posted in students' homeroom teacher's Schoology Course.
Our fabulous specialists have planned some learning opportunities for students that should each take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Please encourage your child to choose two activities to work on tomorrow. Note that because the specials block is asynchronous, the time it is completed is flexible. You may wish to have your children compete specials before 10:30 AM so they have more play time in the afternoon.
Students may choose activities from any of the other specials listed – they need not correspond to the specials ordinarily scheduled for them on Thursdays.
How will attendance be taken?
Our wonderful classroom teachers will be there to greet your children promptly at 10:30 and will take attendance during Morning Meeting. If your child is unable to connect on Zoom before 10:40, they will be marked absent. However, they can complete asynchronous activities to get credit for attendance. Asynchronous activities for classroom learning as well as for specials will be posted in Schoology.
If your child is not present at Morning Meeting but is working on asynchronous activities tomorrow, please email your child's teacher and copy the Canterbury Woods Attendance Line tomorrow to let us know so the absence can be removed.
What if my child has difficulty logging on?

Please keep in mind that your child's teacher cannot answer emails while teaching synchronous lessons, so contact our main office for troubleshooting. They will direct you to our Technology Specialist or School-Based Technology Specialist if your problem persists and you need support with an FCPS device.

A word of encouragement
We hope tomorrow is a successful day of learning for everyone. We realize virtual learning may bring back stressful memories for your family. If your children express anxiety about "going back" to virtual learning, please remind them that this is a one-day event scheduled because we have used up all of our regular snow days. You know your child best -- talk with them about the schedule above and feel free to make adjustments to your plan for the day if needed to promote their well-being. If your child will be absent from tomorrow's activities, please email their teacher and copy our attendance line at CanterburyWoodsElem.Attendance@fcps.edu.
So have your child practice logging in tonight, charge their devices tonight, and have a good night's sleep full of snow-filled dreams!
