Bruin Family –

In an effort to mitigate the spread of Covid-19, FCPS will limit the number of spectators for all indoor athletic events to family members only through at least January 21. Each athlete and coach is permitted four family members at home and away contests. Family members will be provided with a Google Form to sign-up to attend the contest. The names of each family member must be on the list for entry. Please note that all schools will continue to charge regular entry fees for all contests at the gate.

VAX Requirement

COVID-19 screening testing for student-athletes have begun. If your child plans to participate in green days/conditioning activities and proof of vaccination has not been provided and/or you have turned in exemption documentation your child is required to test weekly. Preregistration is now open for families of students requiring a weekly test for athletic participation. One-time parent/legal guardian consent is required to begin COVID screening testing for a student-athlete to be tested at school. You may withdraw your consent for testing at any time. If you want your child to begin participating in COVID-19 screening testing, you must pre-register your child(ren) and provide consent using the >Secure Online Portal<.  If your child has been vaccinated and you would like to get that information submitted, please email a picture of the child’s vaccination card to Kristyn Wharton (kwharton@fcps.edu) or have your child bring in the hard copy to the Student Activities office (E110) where it can be verified. If your child is no longer participating in out-of-season activities, please disregard.

As a reminder, FCPS requires student-athletes to be fully vaccinated or provide a weekly negative COVID-19 test to participate in VHSL winter and spring sports or any activity requiring a physical.

  • Student-athletes ages 16 and older are required to be fully vaccinated or have a medical or religious exemption.
  • Student-athletes ages 16 and older with a medical or religious vaccination exemption will be required to provide a weekly negative COVID-19 test.
  • Student-athletes ages 16 and older who are not fully vaccinated and do not have an exemption may not participate in the activity.
  • Student-athletes ages 12-15 who are not fully vaccinated by choice or due to a medical or religious exemption will be required to provide a weekly negative COVID-19 test.

Students will report to the designated testing location during the day and timeframe established for their school. Lake Braddock will offer testing every Monday from 7:30 am – 9:00 am in the Athletic Training Room (G101). Students not registered or who miss the testing window must get tested on their own and submit a negative test result to the Student Activities office by end-of-day Friday to be eligible for participation the following week. PCR and Rapid tests will be accepted.

Information about all FCPS COVID-19 Screening Testing is on the FPCS website.

Medical Exemptions –

Students who are not receiving the COVID-19 vaccine due to documented health or medical reasons will be exempt from the requirement, but they will need to provide information to their schools. Starting October 4, student athletes can submit the medical exemption information directly to their Student Activities Office.  They will need to provide documentation of a medical exemption from their physician. Students can do this through a letter from their doctor (on the doctor’s office letterhead) stating the student has a medical condition that prevents them from receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. The deadline for submitting medical exemptions for the Winter Season is Monday, November 1. This will allow enough time for those students with a religious exemption to provide proof of their negative Covid-19 test the week prior to tryouts. Students who are not receiving the COVID-19 vaccine due to documented health or medical reasons will be required to submit a negative COVID-19 test weekly.

Religious Exemptions –

Students who are not receiving the COVID-19 vaccine due to religious reasons will be exempt from the requirement, but they will need to provide information to their schools. Starting October 4, student-athletes can submit the Commonwealth of Virginia Certificate of Religious Exemption form to their schools.  The form must be notarized and should be submitted directly to the Student Activities Office. The deadline for submitting religious exemptions for the Winter Season is Monday, November 1. This will allow enough time for those students with a religious exemption to provide proof of their negative Covid-19 test the week prior to tryouts. Students who are not receiving the COVID-19 vaccine due to religious reasons will be required to submit a negative COVID-19 test weekly.

Age Exemption –

FCPS will not mandate the vaccine for student-athletes who are 12-15 years of age. However, vaccination is strongly recommended and FCPS will collect the vaccination information for those 12-15 years of age who wish to provide it. In addition, unvaccinated students who are 12-15 years of age who do not provide a weekly negative Covid-19 test will not be able to participate in team activities.
