Universal Masking Required

Oak View and FCPS continues to require universal mask wearing in alignment with CDC guidance. Our layered prevention strategies have proven effective in keeping transmission rates low in our schools. We know our students are best served by in-person instruction. Adhering to our layered prevention strategies, especially universal masking, keeps our schools open and safe places for students to learn.

FCPS is reviewing Governor Youngkin’s executive order issued this weekend. As we have throughout the pandemic, we will continue to share any updated information with you around FCPS COVID-19 practices and protocols as needed. You can review current health and safety guidelines on our website

FCPS Mask Policy Information

FCPS requires everyone, regardless of vaccination status, to wear a mask inside our buildings and on our school buses, except when alone in a room. This includes staff, students, and visitors.

Outdoor masking is recommended for anyone who is not fully vaccinated in crowded settings or during activities that involve sustained close contact with others.

Daily Symptom Check at Home

Oak View thanks families for their continued diligence in keeping your children home if they are sick or displaying any COVID-like symptoms as we navigate this latest surge. In addition, please note that if you are awaiting test results, please keep your child home - as noted on the screening questionnaire. We know some results have been delayed in the recent surge and appreciate your patience. One of the most important prevention strategies guidelines is screening students daily for any signs of illness prior to leaving home for school. Any student who is ill or presents with COVID-like symptoms is to remain at home. The daily health screening questionnaire and all translated version can be found on our Health and Safety Guidance document at https://www.fcps.edu/return-school/health-and-safety-guidance-document. This document provides the details of the policies and protocols related to COVID-19, and it is continually updated to align with public health guidance as it evolves during the school year. Daily completion of the health screening is done on an honor basis and does not need to be sent to the school. More information is available here.

Oak View in the News

Oak View was delighted to be selected as a showcase school and was featured on WUSA-9 last week for our support of college students who substitute teach over their school breaks. These substitute teachers have been valuable additions to our substitute pool and we were glad to share their success.

These students coupled with our wonderful community substitutes have been invaluable as we navigate the new challenges that this year has created. Our teachers have worked tirelessly to set up high-quality instruction for students and having a trusted substitute to turn the plans over to in their absence provide peace of mind for our staff and a continuation of learning for our students. FCPS will host a substitute hiring fair on Tuesday, January 18 and more information can be found here!
