Key Middle School Families
Dear Key Middle School Community:
In cooperation with the Fairfax County Health Department, this letter is to inform you that students, staff members and/or visitors at Key Middle School have reported testing positive for COVID-19 during the week of January 8-14, 2022.
If you have not been contacted by FCPS, your child is not considered a potential close contact to a positive case at this time. If any additional persons are identified as close contacts during the contact tracing and case investigation process, the Fairfax County Health Department will contact those individuals directly.
A close contact is any person, regardless of vaccination status, who is within six feet of a COVID-19 positive individual for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) K-12 Indoor Exception states students will not be identified as close contacts if they are at least 3 feet apart and consistently wearing masks in the classroom. (Adults are not included in this exception).
If you have questions about COVID-19, you may contact the Fairfax County Health Department at 703-267-3511 (9 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays). You may also email ffxcovid@fairfaxcounty.gov (monitored 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays). Additional COVID-19 resources can be found on the Virginia Department of Health or FCPS websites.
FCPS also maintains a COVID-19 Dashboard that shows daily cases of COVID-19 at the division and school level. Please know that this information is being shared to keep you informed and aware.
We all play a part in stopping the spread of COVID-19.
For more information on COVID-19 Supports and Resources, please visit the Virginia Department of Health website.
Thank you for your cooperation and patience, as we work through the COVID-19 pandemic together.
Sincerely,
Dr. Aimee Holleb
Principal
Academic Advising and Course Registrations for the Upcoming 22-23 School Year
Starting this month, our school counselors have begun presenting course information and meeting individually with students to select their classes for next year. Students will fill out course selection forms with their counselors and bring them home to discuss with their families to review, revise and approve. We are hoping to receive the course forms back by the end of February. Feel free to explore the Key MS Academic Advising site for more information. We will continue updating the site throughout this month. Please reach out to your child’s counselor with any questions. Thank you!

Health Reminders
FCPS Health and Safety Guidelines Questions about FCPS Health and Safety policies and COVID-19 procedures can be found here with all current updates.
Reminders:
- Review the Daily Health Screening. When in doubt, keep your child home if they have any illness. Your child may return the next day if they are feeling better and, if they had a fever, are fever free for 24 hours.
- Students demonstrating any of the following symptoms at school will be sent home from school: Fever (100.4 or greater) - Chills – Cough – Shortness of breath – Loss of taste/smell – Sore throat – Fatigue – Muscle aches – Runny Nose/Congestion – Stomachache – Diarrhea – Nausea/Vomiting – Headaches.
- Please make sure your child has a properly fitting mask.
-
Please do not send your child to school if they have been identified as a close contact to a COVID case. A negative COVID test does not clear your child to return to school. Students who are identified as a close contact with someone with COVID must remain home for 14 days after their last exposure.
