Nominate your Crossing Guard
Nominations close January 21, 2022
Crossing guards are honored by VDOT every year for their dedication to student safety. All nominees are sent letters of appreciation, and winners are sent a certificate and small gift. Virginia Safe Routes to School recognizes Outstanding Crossing Guards in February along with celebrating Crossing Guard Appreciation Day on February 9th. Fairfax county residents should submit nominations for their community crossing guards who are an integral part of getting our children to school safely. We rely on the crossing guards to help our students cross at busy intersections and remind drivers that pedestrians are present. They play a valuable role in Safe Routes to School.
Nominations must include a short paragraph about why your crossing guard is deserving of this recognition and a photograph.
Nominations must be received by January 21, 2022. Use this form to submit your nominations.

Crossing Guard Appreciation Day is February 9, 2022. What will your community do to say thank you to those who ensure our students' safety each day to and from school? Our crossing guards are at their post every day in all kinds of weather. Many of our guards work at multiple schools. They are the first and last smile as our students navigate to and from school. Here are a few ideas for your crossing guard: a heartfelt thank you, a hand written thank you note, welcome them into school for breakfast or provide a cup of coffee or hot chocolate, present them with a certificate of appreciation. There are thank note templates and lots of other suggestions on the VDOT SRTS website. |
