Message from the Principal

Wildcat Families,

Thank you to the community for the donations and contributions to support our Centreville students and families in need this holiday season.  We are fortunate to be part of a wonderful Wildcat community, and I continue to be grateful as your principal.

We’ve had a busy few weeks leading up to the winter break including excellent music concerts, community service projects, the opening of winter sports, and a host of other student activities.  It is a joy to see our students engaged in the activities they are so passionate about.

I hope everyone has a chance to rest and relax over the winter break and spend time with friends and family.  From everyone at CVHS, we are wishing you a healthy and happy holiday season!

Homework

To help make sure your family has a restful winter break, we have asked that no homework be assigned during this time. Teachers may assign long-range assignments in the weeks ahead of the break, but no assignments will be due the first two days of school following the break.

Classes resume on Monday, January 3, 2022

Social Media Concerns

This is a great time to talk with your student and remind them to avoid inappropriate online behavior.  We have been made aware of several inappropriate anonymous Instagram accounts, which target Centreville students and staff.  The accounts often use the CVHS name and logo and at times post hurtful and derogatory comments and pictures.  We are reporting these accounts to Instagram and FCPS Cyber Security in an effort to have the accounts removed.  We will also follow up with any students who may be identified as creating or contributing to these sites.  We have great students at CVHS, and most would not consider posting bullying and harassing type messages.  We want our students to treat each other with respect and kindness, and this behavior does not align with our expectations.  Here are helpful tips for the conversation.  Thank you!

All Night Grad Party - We Need You!

The PTSA is in desperate need of a chair for the ANGP.  Preferably, this would be a junior or sophomore parent who could then share their expertise with the next chair.  Without a chair, it will be difficult to have the ANGP.  The Chair would be the main coordinator of the event, with support from an ANGP Board and other parents. Anyone interested in volunteering or knowing more can reach out to Principal Lehman at CRLehman@fcps.edu or Stephanie Sursi, PTSA President, at president@cvhsptsa.org.

Cell Phones

Teachers are sharing increasing challenges with students using cellphones during class.  Despite teachers' best efforts to engage students and curb phone use, many students continue to be distracted, which impacts productivity, learning, and grades.  Our expectation is that phones are away and out of sight during class unless the teacher has given students permission to use them for an instructional activity.  Please support our efforts and remind your students to put their phones aside during class.

Morning Arrivals

We need your help to ensure that students arrive at school on time.  The first class begins at 8:10, and students are expected to be in the classroom at that time.  To give themselves enough time, students should arrive at school no later than 8:00.  We are seeing an increase in the number of students arriving late to school.  We don’t want students to miss important class time in the morning, and we know punctuality is an important habit to develop.  Thank you for your support!

As part of our school-wide ROAR program – Respect, Ownership, Achievement, Relationships – we would like to provide opportunities for these pillars to be recognized across the entire Centreville community. If there is a staff member that you would like to recognize for one of these attributes (or any other positive contributions to CVHS), please consider filling out the form below to give them a shout-out. We will share these compliments with the staff member.
