 I hope everyone is enjoying the warm December weekend! School staff are excited for a final week of school before winter break. Friday is a particularly exciting day where students & staff are encouraged to wear pajamas, each class will have their winter party, and students will be featured in our Variety Show! If you have signed up to volunteer at a party, please be sure to arrive at least 5 minutes prior to your start time to check in with your photo ID.
Please continue to send your child with a coat, hat, and gloves each day. While we anticipate warmer weather this week, it is still quite cool during morning recess! Looking for your child’s items? Please stop by at or after dismissal to look through our lost & found! You may come to Door #1.
 Thursday is our annual staff winter luncheon from approximately 10:45 – 1:30. Each staff member will be assigned a seating for a lengthier catered lunch, interact in some games, and relax with their colleagues before winter break.  As a reminder, for everyone’s safety, when driving students to school, adults must drop students off at the Kiss and Ride entrance (Door 7). Please see below for information on arrival and dismissal from our 2021-2022 Parent Handbook. Thank you for helping us to keep our procedures running smoothly and our students and staff safe!
Kiss and Ride traffic enters from Idylwood Road, slowly follows the lane to the back of the school, around the parking lot to drop off or wait for your student at Door #7. Exiting traffic goes through the front parking lot (not the bus lane) and exits onto Idylwood. The system moves very quickly now!
Parents may not drop off children anywhere in front of the school or in the bus lane. Children may not cross through the bus lane or kiss & ride lanes without a parent. Be on the lookout for school staff helping direct traffic and ensure safety for all.
 Self-control is the act of managing behavior in a way that positively influences goal attainment and living up to standards. Possessing this strength protects people from destabilizing emotional extremes. Those with self-control are able to limit impulsive behavior. They have the ability to experience and navigate difficulty while remaining poised.
 As a reminder, if you’d like your child to be considered for AAP level IV full-time placement, please submit the parent referral form by December 15 via email to akstraw@fcps.edu or by sending it in to the school office by 3 pm on 12/15. It is optional to submit the parent questionnaire and 2 pages of work samples. At this time, the second grade screening pool has been released. If you have not heard from the county, your child will not be considered unless you submit a referral.
