School Activities/News Updates

Academic Awards:  

  • On Wednesday December 15, during Advisory and S Rotation (10am start time) we will be holding the Academic Awards Ceremony. This ceremony honors student achievement from the 2020-21 school year.  Students who earned a GPA average of 3.8 or higher for the 20-21 school year will be recognize for earning their academic letter.  We will also celebrate AP Scholars, National Merit Scholars, and those selected for Governor’s School last summer.  Students being recognized will receive an email this afternoon and a reminder email on Tuesday.
  • Due to our limitations with parking, the event will only be in person for students. On Tuesday parents of those being recongized will be sent a link if they are interested in watching the live stream. 
  • After winter break, we will hold the Academic Letter and Academic Bar distribution during lunch. We will be sure to email students the date for that so they can stop by and pick up their letter/bar. 

Volunteers needed for the Academic Awards Ceremony

  • When: During Advisory/S Rotation Wednesday 12/15
  • Time Requirement: 9:20 to 11:20 am

 WPHS Science Fair Judges Needed:

  • WPHS needs YOU to volunteer for our Science Fair – Jan. 29, 2022
  • Judges do not need any scientific background.  The whole process starts at 8 am and is over by 12pm.
  • Judges get to meet some of the best students here at WPHS, encourage them to engage in science, and collaborate with other judges.
  • Judges help us select projects to send on to the regional science fair to represent WPHS.

WPHS Holiday Concert - Thurs., Dec. 16th, WPHS Springbank Building

  • The West Potomac Music Department invites you to celebrate the Holidays! Please join us this Thursday, December 16th for the annual Holiday Bazaar on the night of the Fine Arts Holiday Extravaganza Concert. Shop from local vendors before and after enjoying holiday music from our talented students.

Breakfast with Santa event sign-up and food/drink donation sign-up, Class of 2023 Fundraiser

  • Breakfast with Santa, this Sat, Dec 11 from 7:30 – 10:30 am. Bring your friends and family and join the West Potomac Class of 2023 for a holiday tradition that is sure to please!  Tickets are $30 per family and include a family picture with Santa.

Class of 2022 - Direct Donation Campaign

  • The Senior Celebration Committee seeks your financial support for several ideas and events designed to celebrate our Seniors. With the outbreak of Covid-19, the past two graduating classes have missed out on many traditional senior events. The Senior Celebration Committee is hopeful the Class of 2022 will be able to experience a few of the traditional year-end events that make graduation so special Let's work together to celebrate each graduate and to honor their hard work while at WPHS.

 WPHS Band News:

  • Congratulations to West Potomac HS band students that participated in last Saturday’s District Band auditions, an annual event that judges students from our region on their playing ability.  At this year’s audition, there were a total of 348 participants from around Fairfax County, with 50 students from West Potomac.  The results are in and this year we have 31 WPHS students that have earned a chair in the All District Band!  We have six students with the highest score out of everyone in their instrument and two who placed second.  See the list of these students below.  In early February the All District Band will come together for a two-day period to rehearse with a guest conductor and perform a concert.

Youth Basketball Night Hosted by West Potomac HS Girls Basketball – Tonight - Friday, Dec 10th

  • West Potomac Girls vs. Mt Vernon High School at the Wolverdome!
  • Youth wearing a basketball shirt from any league (Fort Hunt, LMV, Mt Vernon, CYO, etc.) get in free with a paying adult.
  • Boys and girls Invited. Highlights include a Free throw shootout at halftime for all youth attendees, the Girls Varsity team will autograph pictures after their game, a raffle to win your team practicing and eating pizza with the varsity team, and many other prizes and events at all three games.

PSAT/NMSQT Score Update

  • October 2021 PSAT/NMSQT scores were released on Monday, December 6, through student College Board accounts.  If you have difficulty accessing your account, please look for an email from Mr. Easter dated December 6, and follow the instructions in his email.  If you tested and you didn’t get an email from Mr. Easter, please contact him at raeaster@fcps.edu.
  • Students interested in receiving their PSAT test book back can stop by the assessment office, room 303H in the library during, lunchtime before December 17.

 Fourth Annual Back2Fairfax Teacher Seminar:

  • Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS) will host the Fourth Annual Back2Fairfax Teacher Seminar virtual event. on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
  • This event will give FCPS high school juniors, seniors, graduates, and former Teachers for Tomorrow or Early Childhood Careers students an opportunity to network with teachers, administrators, and professional groups in Fairfax County Public Schools.
