FCPS Student Devices over Winter Break

Dear Parents,
If you are traveling out of the country for the upcoming winter break, students should not be taking their FCPS issued devices with them. It would be best in these cases if the student left their FCPS device in their classroom prior to
traveling.
All students are permitted to leave their FCPS devices in the classroom over break if they wish.

HHS Madrigals and our clinic aide

Can you find Miss Mercy in this photo?

We would like to thank our HES clinic aide, Mercy Caloyannides, for all of her hard work as a health care worker hero, especially during these past two years.

And WELCOME BACK to the Herndon High School Madrigals!  It has been an annual tradition (except for last year) for them to come to Herndon Elementary and the Herndon pyramid schools and go caroling down the hallways with our students singing along.  We missed you!

Window for AAP Level IV (full-time) Referrals to Close December 15, 2021

Parents/guardians of students in Grades 2-7 who would like their student to be considered for full-time advanced academic programs (level IV AAP services) may submit the AAP Level IV Referral Form to Naomi Egerton Baker  nhegertonbak@fcps.edu or Katie Anderson kanderson2@fcps.edu  no later than December 15.

The window to submit an AAP Level IV Referral Form is the first day of school through December 15, annually.  Forms for full-time and part-time referrals are available on the AAP Forms Page. No late referrals for Level IV services can be accepted.

Submitting a referral form for AAP Level IV will initiate a process that begins at the local school and is then completed at the central office level. Our school will put together a portfolio that includes multiple data which are considered holistically. At the central office level, a committee of professionals from various schools review materials to determine eligibility for level IV placement.  Eligibility decisions are communicated by early April. Parents may request a copy of the portfolio that was submitted after they are submitted to the central selection committee by emailing  Naomi Egerton Baker  nhegertonbak@fcps.edu or Katie Anderson kanderson2@fcps.edu  Referrals for AAP Levels II-III (part-time services) are screened at the local school.

For more information, there are parent presentations available on the FCPS AAP website (under “Presentations”) that contain information similar to our fall parent information meetings at Herndon ES. The video recordings of the Parent Information meetings have been sent in English through News You Choose. The Spanish Parent Information Meeting is this Thursday, November 18th, 2021 at 6:30 PM. A News You Choose email with the recording will be sent after the Thursday parent meeting.

If you have any questions please contact:

Naomi Egerton Baker  nhegertonbak@fcps.edu or Katie Anderson kanderson2@fcps.edu

Thank you.
