Dear Poplar Tree Families,
FCPS has new tools to help parents and guardians know more about their child’s activity on any FCPS device. These tools are provided by Lightspeed, our internet content filtering service, at no cost to families. You may sign up for a weekly Parent Report, which will provide a list of the top sites your child visited. If you want more detailed information, sign up for the Internet Use Parent portal and log-in anytime to see more detail about your child’s browsing and “pause” access to the internet during non-school hours. School Office Closed
The Poplar Tree school office will be closed during winter break beginning Monday, December 20 and reopening on Monday, January 3.
CogAT Scores
For those students that took the CogAT in October, the score reports are being sent home in today's Friday Folder.
 A Disney December!
To celebrate our last two weeks before Winter Break, we will be having a "Disney December!" Starting Monday December 6, each day will be a Spirit Day that relates to a Disney movie! We'll also play songs and/or clips from these movies during our Good Morning Poplar Tree news show!
We can't wait to see all the magical Disney spirit over the next two weeks!✨
Reminder: Window for AAP Level IV (full-time) Referrals to Close December 15, 2021
Parents/guardians of students in Grades 2-7 who would like their student to be considered for full-time advanced academic programs (level IV AAP services) may submit the AAP Level IV Referral Form to Kim Keleher (KJKeleher@fcps.edu) no later than December 15.
The window to submit an AAP Level IV Referral Form is the first day of school through December 15, annually. Forms for full-time and part-time referrals are available on the AAP Forms Page. No late referrals for Level IV services can be accepted.
Submitting a referral form for AAP Level IV will initiate a process that begins at the local school and is then completed at the central office level. Our school will put together a portfolio that includes multiple data which are considered holistically. At the central office level, a committee of professionals from various schools review materials to determine eligibility for level IV placement. Eligibility decisions are communicated by early April. Parents may request a copy of the portfolio that was submitted after they have been turned in for central selection by emailing Kim Keleher (KJKeleher@fcps.edu). Referrals for AAP Levels II-III (part-time services) are screened at the local school.
For more information, there are parent presentations available on the FCPS AAP website (under “Presentations”) that contain information similar to our fall parent information meetings at Poplar Tree.

Fairfax County Police Motor Squad's
Toy Collection
We are excited to share that our school is one of the collection sites for the Fairfax County Police Motor Squad’s Santa’s Ride Toy Collection. We are collecting donations of NEW unwrapped toys, games, books and gifts. The collection boxes are available in our school lobby and in front of the school now through Friday, December 10th. The donated toys will go to the children at Fairfax Hospital, Georgetown Lombardi Cancer Center, and children in the community. Thank you for your support!

Poplar Tree’s Read-a-Thon is underway! There is still time to collect donations and support your child and PTES! It’s easy to share the link via text or Facebook to collect donations. Wear pajamas or cozy clothes. Teachers will encourage reading throughout the day.
