Sub and Save the Day!
FCPS needs substitute teachers. Substitute teaching is a great opportunity for stay-at-home parents, retirees, college students, and anyone who wants a flexible work schedule. You can set parameters for the days you are available, the grade levels you would like to teach, or the schools where you want to assist.

Winter Break is Fast Approaching
Please note that the school and office will be closed during the winter break, December 20 - January 2. Classes will resume Monday, January 3.
Students in grades K-6 participate in Family Life Education (FLE) instruction through their classroom teacher. Students in Kindergarten through grade three receive instruction in an emotional and social health unit. Students in grades 4-6 receive instruction in a human growth and development unit and an emotional and social health unit. Human Growth and Development lessons will be taught on the following dates:
- Grade 4 - December 16
- Grade 5 - December 9, 10, 13, 15, 16
- Grade 6 - December 13-17

Parents/Guardians will be able to preview FLE lessons in Schoology. A folder, Parent Preview- FLE Instruction, contains links to the lessons, slide presentations, and media for which FCPS has purchased streaming rights. Some media titles may only be available for parents to view at the school. Login
- Go to https://lms.fcps.edu.
- Enter your username and password (same as your SIS ParentVue account).
- Click Sign in.
- Click Courses
- Click GBW Parents Site to access the FLE lessons (see picture below).

December 15th is the deadline to refer students in grades 2-6 for AAP Level IV services to begin at the start of the 22-23 school year. If you would like your child screened for full-time AAP services, please submit the following no later than the 15th:
- Level IV referral form (mandatory)- All forms should include information about why there may be a need for full-time AAP services. All forms must be signed and dated. - Parent/Guardian Questionnaire (optional)- All forms should include specific examples to support student ratings. All forms must be signed and dated. Forms can be found at: https://www.fcps.edu/academics/academic-overview/advanced-academic-programs-aap/advanced-academic-program-aap-forms
- Up to 2 single-sided pages of work samples (optional)- Work samples must be on standard 8.5x11 copy paper. Works samples should demonstrate critical/creative thinking. It is recommended that works samples connect to academic content areas (language arts, math, science, and/or social studies). No worksheets that show fact/algorithm memorization, multiple choice, or fill-in-the-blank will be accepted.
- Additional testing (optional)- any ability testing taking through George Mason’s testing center or a licensed psychologist may be included. Testing through a psychologist must also include the psychologist’s license. Any achievement testing from a previous school district may also be included.
All items can be submitted in hard copy to the front office or digitally through email (preferred) to sebalcanoff@fcps.edu. If submitting in hard copy, please include an email address on your envelope to confirm receipt.
Spirit Night at MOD Pizza - TODAY - ALL DAY

SENIOR SPELLING BEE (4th - 6th)

Description: The Scripps National Spelling Bee is an annual competition with the purpose of helping students improve their spelling, increase their vocabulary, learn concepts, and develop correct English usage that will help them all their lives. Each year, thousands of schools across the US participate in the Spelling Bee, competing for college scholarships and other prizes.
