Nominate an Irving MS Outstanding Staff Member

It is time to nominate our amazing staff for the FCPS Outstanding Employee awards. Please complete the Nomination Form and nominate an Irving MS employee for each of the categories. We have been fortunate to have previous nominees, Steve Spero, Safety & Security Assistant advance as a finalist for the Outstanding Operational Employee category and Jenny Hay, English Teacher, was named the 2020-21 FCPS Outstanding Secondary Teacher.

All nominations must be completed by Monday, December 6. Thank you for recognizing our employees!

Kiss & Ride Adjustment

In an effort to help students arrive to class sooner in the morning, we are going to give students who are dropped off by a parent or guardian the option of exiting their car near the front of the school once our buses have cleared. While still following the same Kiss & Ride path, a staff member in a yellow vest will be stationed near the set of cones along the right lane of our Kiss & Ride lines to alert you when this is available. Please be sure to use the right lane if your child wants to take advantage of this. Students will still have the option of entering the school by door 2 as they have been doing if that is closer to their class. If you do drop your child near the main entrance, we still ask that you follow the rest of the Kiss & Ride traffic pattern to keep the flow moving and do not try to cut across the parking lot.

Want a way to support families in our community this holiday season?

Each year, the Irving staff and community adopt Irving families to provide gifts during the holiday season. As you can imagine, there is even more need this year in the Irving community. If you would like to donate directly to a family in our neighborhood by providing a gift card, please sign up using this Sign Up Genius. Please plan to deliver the gift card to Meg Gollinger at Irving by December 3rd to ensure we have enough time to get the gift cards to families.

If your family needs assistance, please reach out to Ms. Jamison at tdjamison@fcps.edu.

Library News

The Irving Library was busy this week with visits from all 8th grade students as they selected an historical fiction novel to read for their next English class project.  Ask your student what title they borrowed!  Throughout their reading of the novel, students will be looking for evidence in the text that shows that the book is set in a different time, will be making connections between the events in the book and present-day, and will be determining what parts are historical and what parts are fiction.  Great dinner conversation potential there!

The Winter Break is coming up.  Make sure to encourage your student to have plenty of reading material to occupy their time over the holidays.
