Dear Fox Mill Families and Friends,
We hope everyone had a lovely Thanksgiving and are now embracing the month of December. Will it snow? Will the weather keep going from warm to freezing in the same week? Will my child ever find the coat, hat, mittens, hoodie that has gone MIA? Deep questions for our final month of 2021.
Please read about what's happening at The Mill.
Have a lovely weekend doing what brings you joy.
All the best,
Mr. Moose Ms. Greene
Yearbook Pictures—Thursday, December 9
Group pictures of Patrols, SCA representatives, Band, Strings and Chorus will be taken at the beginning of the day on Thursday, December 9th. Students participating in these groups will be called from classrooms for their photographs.
Parents/guardians of students in Grades 2-7 who would like their student to be considered for full-time advanced academic programs (level IV AAP services) may submit the AAP Level IV Referral Form and any optional materials to our Advanced Academics Resource Teacher (AART), Pamela James, at prjames@fcps.edu no later than December 15. Please submit as a complete package.
The window to submit an AAP Level IV Referral Form is the first day of school through December 15, annually. Forms for full-time and part-time referrals are available on the AAP Forms Page. No late referrals for Level IV services can be accepted.
Submitting a referral form for AAP Level IV will initiate a process that begins at the local school and is then completed at the central office level. Our school will put together a portfolio that includes multiple data which are considered holistically. At the central office level, a committee of professionals from various schools review materials to determine eligibility for level IV placement. Eligibility decisions are communicated by early April. Parents may request a copy of the portfolio that was submitted after they have been turned in for central selection by emailing Pamela James, AART, at prjames@fcps.edu. Referrals for AAP Levels II-III (part-time services) are screened at the local school.
For more information, there are parent presentations available on the FCPS AAP website (under “Presentations”) that contain information similar to our fall parent information meetings at Fox Mill.
The Fox Mill Advanced Woodwind and Brass Players and the Fifth and Sixth Grade String Ensemble will be presenting a live-stream Winter Concert on Friday, December 10th from 10:00-10:15 AM. Fourth Grade String Students will present their live-stream concert on Friday, December 17th from 10:00 AM-10:15 AM. We are very excited to be performing our first concerts in two years, and we would like to invite the Fox Mill community to watch from home. In the next few days, a Zoom link will be emailed to families of performers. A video recording of the performances will be posted to the Fox Mill ES Parent All Schoology group.and will remain available for one week after each concert. Please email Mrs. Zurbuchen (strings) at erzurbuchen@fcps.edu or Ms. Tomko (band) at TMTomko@fcps.edu with any questions.
After 27 years with Fairfax County Public Schools, with the final six being at Fox Mill, Ms. Greene is retiring! Her last day will be on December 17, 2021.
In her own words....
Each day at FMES has been a blessing. Getting to know and work with such an amazing faculty and staff has offered me so much - the learning, the laughing, the collaboration, the celebrations, and even the challenging times are marked on my heart.
Fox Mill students are the best this county has! I've never been surrounded by such a caring, smart, creative, kind, unique, and funny group of young people in my life. I feel as if they are all truly *my kids*.
Thank you for welcoming me into the Fox Mil Family six years ago. I wish the best for all and this is not "good-bye" but "see you soon", because, as we know Once a Fox, Always a Fox!
May you fly high in life & success be with you always.
With much love,
Ms. Greene
