Reduction in Student Quarantine Period

With the start of the national rollout of COVID-19 vaccinations for children ages 5-11 and a drop in the Fairfax County transmission rate from “substantial” to “moderate,” we are adjusting some of the layered prevention strategies that have helped keep the rate of in-school transmission of COVID-19 at just 0.02%.

  • Unvaccinated students who are exposed to COVID-19 in a school setting may quarantine for 10 days, instead of 14 days
  • Students will be notified of the day they may return to the classroom via the pause letter.
  • If you do not have a pause letter from your school, you will need to quarantine for 14 days, per the requirement of the Fairfax County Health Department.

More information is available online.

Family Code Night

Annadale Terrace Elementary invites you to participate in our National Family Code Night, a free live-stream event for our K-5 families. This is a fun learning experience in which children do their first hour of coding with a parent or other partner. No experience needed! The event has been held in thousands of schools nationwide, and is now provided to our school via a live stream. Participants will be entered into a drawing for a license to Dash’s Neighborhood, a virtual robotics playground, from Wonder Workshop. So, save the date and get ready for a community learning experience the whole family will value and enjoy.

Family Code Night

K-5 Family Life Education (FLE) Preview Night

Students in grades K-5 participate in Family Life Education (FLE) instruction through their classroom teacher.   Students in Kindergarten through grade three receive instruction in an emotional and social health unit. Students in grades 4 and 5 receive instruction in a human growth and development unit and an emotional and social health unit. For more information about the FCPS Family Life Education program, please see the detailed grade-level program descriptions at https://www.fcps.edu/academics/elementary-family-life-education-fle.

In addition, grade level-specific curriculum lessons are available for review in multiple locations.

  • Online in Schoology - includes lessons and media titles that FCPS has streaming rights for. Any additional media or book titles that are not streamed are available at your child’s school library.
    • Parents/guardians login to Schoology using the same username and password as their Student Information System (SIS) Parent account.
  • Your child’s school. Please contact the school to schedule a time to review lessons and/or media.
  • City of Fairfax Regional Library – lessons only. Media is not available.

You are invited to attend an evening opportunity to preview the Family Life Education media and lessons and to talk with school staff about the program. The meeting will be held on December 7, 2021 at 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM in the cafeteria at Annandale Terrace Elementary School. All program materials and media for all grade levels will be available for your review at this time.

Parents/guardians who do not wish to have their child participate in FLE instruction may choose to opt their child out of any or all of the lessons. If you would like to opt your child out of one or more lessons, please fill out the form provided to you in your child’s orientation packet at the beginning of the school year or you may access the opt out forms online at https://www.fcps.edu/academics/elementary-family-life-education-fle. If you have already indicated your desire to opt your child out of FLE lessons by using the form provided earlier in the school year, you do not need to complete another form. Should you opt your child out and then later decide you want your child included in FLE instruction, you must notify your child’s school principal in writing before instruction begins.

An alternative non-FLE health instructional program is provided for students who do not take part in FLE instruction, and every effort is made to foster understanding and respect for family choices and to avoid peer pressure for or against participation in the program.

Instruction occurs at various times during the school year. Please contact your child’s teacher for specific dates of FLE instruction. We look forward to working as your partner in providing information that will help your child make healthy choices related to the exciting changes and new challenges he/she will be facing in the next few years.

Families, We Need Your Consent for Select Digital Resources

At Annandale Terrace Elementary School, our teachers will use a variety of digital resources to support student learning and promote communication and collaboration with students and families. Some of the digital resources your child may use this year will require your consent before they can be used. You can find our school’s list of the resources that require parental consent here: https://annandaleterracees.fcps.edu/student-links

Additionally, you can find more information about approved digital resources in FCPS here: https://www.fcps.edu/resources/technology/digital-resources

Included on this page is also a link to a form where the enrolling parent or guardian will need to indicate whether or not their student is allowed to use the list of digital resources this year. This page also provides more information about how FCPS carefully reviews digital resources for approval and why we must request your consent before using certain tools. We encourage you to complete the parental consent for digital resources form as soon as possible, as your child will not be able to use the digital resources until we have received your permission. Please reach out to Carlie Taylor (ctaylor@fcps.edu ) if you have questions or concerns about the digital resources we’ve chosen to use this year.

Power Pack Program

In partnership with Food For Others we are happy to continually offer this program to our families this year. Please fill out the form if you wish to participate.

Schoology - How Do I Login

FCPS is beginning using Schoology as an online platform for many student assignments.  It has many similar features to Google Classroom, and students should be able to navigate it easily to find and submit assignments after their teachers show them how to use it in school.

We anticipate continuing to use FCPS laptops in school for many assignments, especially in the upper grades.  However, being back to in-person school allows for hands on and paper/pencil activities that support learning.

FCPS is no longer using BBCU and will instead use Zoom as a virtual meeting tool, when necessary.

Please click the link below to access the Schoology log-in instruction.
