Book Fair and Holiday Drive!

A lot is happening at Island Creek Elementary before winter break. We have several opportunities for you to be involved in the PTA, to make a difference for Island Creek families in need, and volunteer at the school.

Holiday Drive:

The Holidays are fast approaching, and many families are experiencing financial hardships.

Instead of our traditional Croc Pond, Island Creek in collaboration with our PTA is collecting gift card donations (from grocery stores such as Giant, Safeway, Walmart, and Target) to help Island Creek families in need. Our goal is to collect $3,000 to help support over 40 families in our community.  

The holiday drive will also help provide a book for Island Creek students who would not otherwise be able to participate in our Book Fair to help encourage a love of reading!

If you would like to contribute, please drop off the gift cards to the Island Creek Front Office Staff by Friday, December 10. We prefer gift cards in $25 increments and ask that you consider giving several cards if you would like to donate more!

The PTA can accept monetary donations through Friday, December 10, via Paypal with “Holiday Drive” in the message field. Monetary donations will directly benefit our book initiative.

The Holiday Drive will be collecting donations between November 15 – December 10, 2021. We appreciate your support in helping to make this holiday season a bit more magical for Island Creek Elementary families in need.

The Island Creek Elementary Book Fair is back!  Please review the shopping dates below and we hope to see you there!

Student Shopping Times:

  • Wednesday 12/1: Preview Day for students & staff
  • Thursday 12/2 - Wednesday 12/8: Book Fair open during school hours. Students K-6 will have shopping time during library time.

Family Shipping Times:

  • Thursday, 12/2 (5:00-7:00 PM) PreK, Kindergarten, & 1st Grade
  • Monday, 12/6 (5:00 - 7:00 PM) 2nd, 3rd, & 4th Grade Families
  • Tuesday, 12/7 (5:00 - 7:00 PM) 5th & 6th Grade Families
  • Wednesday, 12/8 (8:10 - 9:20 AM) Grownups Only

Island Creek Elementary Book Fair Volunteers

We are looking for volunteers to help work and support the Island Creek Book Fair.

Masked will be required while working in the library.

This fall’s theme is ‘Reading is a Gift.’ You can get your kids into the fun by having them decorate and wrap a gift box. The boxes can be any size or shape - whatever you have at home! Generic wrapping paper is preferred. Consider wrapping paper for birthdays, popular characters, any color, any pattern – rather than holiday-specific.

Drop off wrapped boxes at the library by November 30. Donations of solid or patterned wrapping paper are also appreciated.

Information about the book fair was included in your students Thursday folder (11/18).

Event Co-Chairs and Volunteers:

The Island Creek Elementary PTA Board is made up of five parent volunteers. We've taken the lead on putting together the calendar of events, fundraising initiatives, and opportunities for parents to be involved with the school.

We need your help to continue to run these events in the spring. Volunteer efforts - big and small, one-time or ongoing - will make all the difference this year!

Spring Events:

  • Art Night (February 18)
  • Faculty and Staff Appreciation Week (May 2 - 6)
  • Community Fair (June 10)
  • Spring Enrichment Daily Parent Volunteer (Dates TBD. Volunteers needed Tuesday-Thursday)

Without volunteers, these events may be unable to be held successfully. We'll be adding volunteer opportunities throughout the year to this signup form. Please use this form to sign up and provide your contact information. Note: Most of these opportunities will be family-friendly. Please bring your students or younger children with you while volunteering! Masks will be required when volunteering at Island Creek Elementary.
