Thanksgiving Messages From the Admin Team

Dear Sangster Families,

As the Thanksgiving holiday is fast approaching, I wanted to take a moment to wish all of you a happy and healthy Thanksgiving. I know I continue to be very thankful to be a part of such a loving and supportive school community. I feel as though I speak for the staff when I say your children truly bring us joy every day!  I know for me, I can be having the worst day ever, and one small interaction with a student is an instant mood builder.  This year my family and I will be together at my brother’s house in Maryland. My sister-in-law has a large Greek family and this is the first time we have all been together in a long time.  Whatever your plans are, home or away, please have a happy and healthy holiday!  Ms. Jankovich

Happy Thanksgiving to the Sangster community!  This year, I am grateful to have officially joined the Sangster team as an Assistant Principal.  I am looking forward to have spending Thanksgiving at home with my family and cooking a big Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings. I’m excited that my parents are coming to visit for the first time in two years.  I wish you all the best for a wonderful time with your loved ones.  Mrs. Kleiber

I’d like to wish the entire Sangster community a wonderful and restful Thanksgiving break!  More than ever, I am thankful that I get to work in the best school with the most amazing students and staff constantly who constantly remind me of all the good there is in this world.  During the break, I’m looking forward to enjoying time with my family in the New York City area, which will most definitely involve lots of good food and way too much eating! I hope you all get to spend time with loved ones and have opportunities to do the things that bring you joy!   Mrs. Redford

SR&R Reminder

Signatures are due now, please submit ASAP if you have not already.

FCPS’ updated Student Rights & Responsibility booklet is now available online and in the ParentVue section of the Student Information System (SIS). The SR&R booklet explains expectations for student behavior, and adult responses to enhance school safety and to create a fair, equitable, and supportive school environment.

Each year, we ask parents to review, sign, and return the SR&R to their child’s school. There are two ways for parents to acknowledge that you have received the document:

  1. In ParentVue, you may now download and digitally sign the SR&R. Every parent/guardian with a ParentVUE account will see the SR&R upon login to ParentVUE until the SR&R acknowledgement has been completed.  E-signing for one child will suffice for all siblings within the household. Your name in the digital signature box must match the parent/guardian’s first and last name in SIS exactly before the signature will be accepted.
  2. Download and sign the Parent Signature Sheet and please return the signed signature sheet to your child's teacher.

Wellness Wednesdays &

Sangster Spirit Day Fridays

Happy and healthy students and staff continues to be a focus at Sangster.  Now more than ever, it’s important that our students learn and practice skills and habits that promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being. As a school community we want our staff and students to have self-care strategies and routines that they can use throughout the school day and beyond!  We continue to have two spirit days each week that we encourage everyone to take part in. First, Wellness Wednesdays give staff and students a chance to build both physical and mental wellness routines such as calm breathing and walking a few extra laps around the track at recess.  Teachers share new ideas and strategies with students along the way, and of course, athletic wear on Wednesdays is encouraged!  Secondly, students and staff show our Sangster pride every Friday by wearing Sangster Spirit Wear OR our school colors – blue and yellow.  Let’s take care of ourselves, each other, and our nest!

FCPS Cares

FCPS CARES is an opportunity for staff, parents, students, and community members to recognize FCPS employees for going above and beyond to help others. Every month, a nominated employee from each region and Central Offices will be recognized as an FCPS CARES of the Month recipient. We’ll share their names in Employee News, and they will also have access to a new FCPS CARES banner for their profile photo in Outlook. Watch this video to learn more about FCPS CARES. We also encourage you to acknowledge a staff member who has gone above and beyond!  We love our Sangster staff members, let's tell them how we feel!

P2

Positivity Project

This year, Sangster will continue implementing the Positivity Project(P2). P2 is dedicated to empowering America’s youth to build strong relationships and to understand, appreciate, and exemplify the character strengths in us all. Every 1-2 weeks, students learn about a new character strength.

Positivity Project - Week of Nov. 14, 2021

This week’s character strength is Gratitude. Gratitude is the quality of feeling and expressing thankfulness and appreciation. It is an affirmation that there is goodness in other people and the world, and that we have received that goodness. People with the strength of gratitude have a readiness to show appreciation for kindness and also to return kindness.

The site P2 For Families is available for connecting P2 to your home and you can learn more about the site here. Many of the slides are password protected and the password is P2 (case-sensitive).

Next Week’s Character Strength: Gratitude Week 2

Positivity Project - Week of November 21, 2021

This week’s character strength is Gratitude. Out of all 24 character strengths, gratitude is the single best predictor of individual well-being. It is correlated with increased energy, empathy, happiness and optimism. And, the great thing about gratitude is that it can be intentionally cultivated. Numerous studies have concluded that gratitude is like a muscle. The more you practice it, the stronger it gets – and the more you’re able to reap its benefits.

The site P2 For Families is available for connecting P2 to your home and you can learn more about the site here. Many of the slides are password protected and the password is P2 (case-sensitive).
