Principal's Message

As we close out this week of Thanksgiving, I wanted to share my thanks for your support this school year. While we have still needed to adapt to keep safety a priority, the most important part is our children are back in school with their teachers and with their peers as they continue to learn and grow alongside. You have asked to fulfill needs within our school, sent in donations of wipes to keep the germs at bay, supported our staff with your notes of thanks and appreciation and ensured your children came to school with what they need to help them be successful. I do hope that each of our Chesterbrook families, staff and students, were able to fully embrace this break and enjoy time with family and friends.

I want to share my deepest thanks for our lunch time parents volunteers that have devoted their time to supporting our students and keeping them eating outdoors as long as possible. As the temperature dip we are continuing to monitor possibilities to eat outdoors and will whenever we can. When the temps hit mid 40s or we have a lot of wind and of course rain, we are eating indoors. While working to keep everyone as safe as possible, our students still need to be as comfortable as possible. Please do continue to send coats with your children.

I wanted to wish a Happy Hanukkah to those beginning their celebration this evening.

With Gratitude,

Stacy Kirkpatrick

Lost and Found

Is your child missing a sweatshirt, water bottle, coat or all of the above?

Writing names in your child's coat, sweatshirts and on other items will allow us to return them. We have limited storage space, so please have your child check the storage shelves across from the library. Even if they think there is nothing missing, please have them check!

Reminder:  Window for AAP Level IV (full-time) Referrals to Close December 15, 2021

Parents/Guardians of students in Grades 2-7 who would like their student to be considered for full-time advanced academic programs (Level IV AAP services) may submit the AAP Level IV Referral Form to Chesterbrook’s AART, Amy Vallath ajvallath@fcps.edu, no later than December 15.

The window to submit an AAP Level IV Referral Form is the first day of school through December 15, annually.  Forms for full-time and part-time referrals are available on the AAP Forms Page. No late referrals for Level IV services can be accepted.

Submitting a referral form for AAP Level IV will initiate a process that begins at the local school and is then completed at the central office level. Our school will put together a portfolio that includes multiple data which are considered holistically. At the central office level, a committee of professionals from various schools review materials to determine eligibility for level IV placement.  Eligibility decisions are communicated by early April. Parents may request a copy of the portfolio that was submitted after they have been turned in for central selection by emailing Amy Vallath ajvallath@fcps.edu. Referrals for AAP Levels II-III (part-time services) are screened at the local school.

For more information, there are parent presentations available on the FCPS AAP website (under “Presentations”) that contain information similar to our fall parent information meetings at Chesterbrook.

Laptop Care- It's RESTART Time!

FCPS has been pushing many new updates and security patches to school laptops to ensure new policies, filtering and the most recent version of applications are in place. It’s important that students restart their laptops.

A shutdown and then powering on is not the same as a restart.

A RESTART is done by selecting the (1) Windows logo, clicking the (2) power icon, and selecting (3) Restart from the window options.
