Learn How FCPS Develops Its School Year Calendar

As FCPS develops the 2022-23 School Year Calendar, it’s important to be transparent and work to build a calendar that is inclusive and equitable. In addition to community feedback, there are laws and policies that must be followed. The School Board has final approval on the calendar, scheduled to be finalized by their vote on January 27. New MyPDE Multi-factor Authentication

and Navigation Icons

Starting Friday, November 19, the MyPDE system will require multi-factor authentication for all users, like you already do for Google and Outlook. This added security will provide an additional layer of protection to the sign-in process. In addition, the navigation is being updated so that users can find what they need more easily. The new navigation will be available on Monday, November 22.  For technical support or questions, please submit a ticket to RequestIT or email ITServicedesk@fcps.edu. Pop-up Pediatric School-located Vaccine Clinics and Tips From Local Pediatricians

Beginning Tuesday, November 16, the Fairfax Health District and FCPS will offer the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5 to 11, at ten clinics located at schools across Fairfax County. All children are welcome, and a parent or responsible adult must accompany them. We are encouraging parents to get their children vaccinated as a way to keep our schools open and safe as we come out of the pandemic.The COVID-19 vaccine is safe, effective, and free.

The Fairfax County Health Department’s webpage has information about the clinics and resources for finding and scheduling a vaccine appointment. Up-to-date information about vaccination opportunities is available on our website.

Required COVID-19 Testing Of Unvaccinated Employees This Week  – Thanksgiving and Winter Break Schedule

All employees who are not fully vaccinated are required to test this week. For more information on FCPS testing locations, times and screening questions, visit the Hub’s Employee COVID-19 Screening Testing page. 

COVID-19 Employee Testing Sites – Thanksgiving and Winter Break Schedule

For those employees in the staff testing pool, COVID-19 testing will not be available or required at FCPS locations during the week of Thanksgiving and Winter Break. Please cancel your appointments during the weeks listed below if you have already scheduled an appointment. Testing is required for unvaccinated staff all other weeks.

Register Your Child for Optional COVID-19 Screening Testing

Registration for optional COVID-19 screening testing begins this week. Parents and guardians may pre-register their child(ren) and provide consent using the LTS secure online portal. If you do not want your child to participate in COVID-19 screening testing, no action is required. You will have the option each week to update your child’s vaccination status and consent for testing.

Student-athletes do not need to pre-register with the LTS online portal for screening testing, they will use a separate portal provided by their school’s student activities director.

There will be no student COVID-19 screening testing the week of November 22 due to the Thanksgiving break.

Don’t Miss a Chance to Earn a $100 Wellness Incentive

Employees participating in an FCPS health plan as the primary cardholder can earn a $100 wellness incentive in 2021 when they complete their online health assessment (HA) now through December 31.

The online questionnaire related to your general health and well-being is easy to complete in about 15-20 minutes. The HA is confidential. Only you and your health plan receive the individual information. Your information is never shared with FCPS in compliance with state and federal privacy laws. November’s Walking Wednesday Dedicated to Ruby Bridges

Staff, students and families are encouraged to take part in monthly Walking Wednesdays during the 2021-22 school year to benefit mental and physical health. The Safe Routes to School office will be promoting Walking Wednesdays throughout the year, with a different theme each month.

November’s event is dedicated to Ruby Bridges, the elementary student who, as the first African American student to integrate William Frantz Elementary School in New Orleans, was escorted to school by federal marshals in 1960. Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day is November 17.


School Facilities Renamed in Honor of Former School Board Members Janie Strauss and Ilryong Moon

The contributions of two former Fairfax County School Board members were recognized at the School Board meeting on November 11 when two school facilities were renamed in their honor. Strauss, the longest serving woman school board member, was honored with a resolution dedicating the McLean High School theater dressing rooms as the “Janie Strauss Dressing Rooms.” Moon, the first Asian-American to be elected to a public office in Virginia, was honored with a resolution dedicating the Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST) main gym in his name, “Ilryong Moon Gymnasium.” Read the full story and learn about their connections to theater and athleticsView the full resolution presentation.
