IMPORTANT INFO & EVENTS
1st Quarter Grades
- Grades are now viewable in StudentVue and ParentVue for the first quarter. Please review these grades with your student. If you have any questions about a grade, please reach out to the teacher directly. A reminder that first quarter grades are a snapshot in time. Students’ current grade reflects their up to date grade for the year based on our rolling gradebook system.
Freshmen Wellness Lessons
- This week all freshmen will participate in wellness lessons conducted by school counselors in their Health & PE 9 classes. Through the lesson they will take a screener for signs of depression. If parents would like to review information on these lessons, go to https://sossignsofsuicide.org/parent. Here you will find information on the program as well as warning signs for youth suicide, useful resources, and some of the key messages students will learn.
- As a reminder, if you do not want your child to participate in the wellness screening lesson, please email Timothy Buckley – tcbuckley@fcps.edu. Include your student’s name and ID number stating that you wish to have your child omitted from the screening.
- 11th grade students will be screened December 8-10. A separate email will be sent to 11th grade parents with more details.
4th Period Changes (Advisory/Warhawk Time)
- To allow students more independent time throughout the week, we have adjusted the format of 4th period. Starting on November 19, students will have Advisory for 35 minutes and Warhawk Time for 50 minutes.
- Advisory will continue to be a place where students can build relationships with their teachers and peers through lessons and general discussion prompts. Additional time has been added to Warhawk Time to allow students the ability to visit more teachers, complete work, or take a mental break if needed.
FCPS Outstanding Employee Awards
- Is a teacher or staff member at Madison going above and beyond to make this year a great one? Students, parents, community members, and staff are encouraged to nominate an outstanding Madison employee for recognition in the FCPS Outstanding Employee Awards program! Submit nominations here. Nominations must be received by Tuesday, November 23.

- If you know your student will be absent next week, feel free to let our attendance staff know now. Submit the online attendance form or leave a voicemail at 703-319-2319.
Winter Clothing Drive
- Please consider signing up to support Madison students in need of winter clothing. Donations may be brought to the Madison High School main office from 8am-4pm through Monday, December 13. An additional weekend drop off time is on Saturday, November 20 from 12pm-1:30pm in front of Door 11 during the ESOL Giving Day. Sign up here to donate. We are also supporting the Louise Archer Elementary clothing drive, so new or gently-used children’s winter clothing donations may also be dropped off in the Madison main office. Senior Photos
- If you missed senior portraits at Madison and would like to be included in the yearbook, you may schedule an appointment at the Lifetouch Annandale Studio location. The studio is located at the John G. Fox Memorial Hall, 7128 Columbia Pike, Annandale, VA 22003. You can schedule a studio appointment by going to prestigeportraits.com/studio. Click the blue 'Book Appointment' button to get started. You'll select the Virginia - Northern Virginia location and enter Madison High School in the search bar. Select James Madison High School when it comes up and you can select your sitting level and appointment date and time from there. Seniors photographed prior to the yearbook deadline will have their images sent to the school for inclusion in the yearbook.
