Reading Tip | Do you use these read-aloud strategies?
Daily read-alouds with your child develop his reading skills and help him associate reading with enjoyable times with you. Are you using read-aloud strategies that make the most of this time? Answer yes or no below:
- Do you set aside at least 20 minutes a day to get cozy and read with your child?
- Do you take turns being the one to read aloud?
- Do you let your child choose where and what you’ll read sometimes?
- Do you pause from time to time to discuss what you’ve read so far?
- Do you stop reading at an exciting place in the story so your child will want to continue the next day?
How well are you doing? More yes answers mean you are helping your child become a better reader. For each no, try that idea!

Counselor’s Corner
We are in the full swing of school having wrapped up the first quarter! During the month of November, we continue to work on self-control and friendship in our wellness lessons for grades K-2. Students are also learning additional coping strategies. At home, you can help your child name their feelings and use strategies they have learned in school to stay calm and solve problems. We are practicing empathy and seeing things from another’s point of view!
Students in upper grades are focusing on healthy peer relationships and learning how to recognize the qualities of a healthy vs unhealthy relationship and appropriate boundaries.
Thank you for partnering with us in help our students maximize their potential!
