Academy Ambassadors Speak to Middle Schools Students at Katherine Johnson Middle
Academy Ambassadors representing different programs were delighted to spend the day speaking with middle school students about their experiences in career and technical education courses. The Academy students presented advantages of exploring career related courses in high school and how it is helping them solidify their own post-secondary plans. The middle school students were inspired, asked meaningful questions, and connected well with the Ambassadors.
Academy Ambassadors are chosen to represent their program throughout the year. They are a small group of students dedicated to the positive promotion of Chantilly Governor’s STEM Academy. They will work on a volunteer basis to serve as liaisons between the current Chantilly Academy community and prospective students.
Here are some of the sights from around the Academy this week. Although the sun is setting earlier and many students are finding themselves fatigued easily—Academy students have been hard at work earning certifications, competing, and gaining new skills!
Current cadets from the Chantilly Academy High School Firefighting program spent the day demonstrating skills and speaking to current juniors about the emergency services career pathway.
Students in the Medical Assistant course begin certification in CPR
We were thrilled to have former student and current professional firefighter return to Chantilly Academy to speak about his career with Fairfax County Fire & Rescue.
Students in cyber courses have been preparing for the second round of CyberPatriot competition that will take place this week. CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition, which puts teams of high school and middle school students in the position of newly hired IT professionals tasked with managing the network of a small company. Through a series of online competition rounds, teams are given a set of virtual operating systems and are tasked with finding and fixing cybersecurity vulnerabilities while maintaining critical services. The top teams in the nation earn all-expenses-paid trips to Maryland for the National Finals Competition where they can earn national recognition and scholarship money.
