Pine Spring Families,
While I absolutely appreciate the thought and consideration that goes into every decision regarding the health and wellness of your child, I want to ask you to please consider the vaccine for your child.
From an education standpoint, the vaccine will allow us to return our classrooms back into the spaces we’ve always known at Pine Spring. We would love to soon be in a situation where teachers can sit next to your child and their friends. We are looking forward to the days where handshakes and high fives are normal again, and where we can come together inside the hallways of Pine Spring as a community to celebrate their success. To make this happen, we need your support in getting our children vaccinated.
If you are unsure of where to get a vaccination or are having issues accessing the vaccine, please email me at neyacubovich@fcps.edu. I am happy to help you access resources. If you have questions about the vaccine, please contact your child’s pediatrician. If you do not have a health care provider, please contact me and we will work to answer your questions. I am not a medical professional, so I will not be able to directly answer questions regarding the vaccine.
If you would like to share a picture of your family doing their part to bring us all fully back together again, we encourage you to tweet your picture with the hashtag #PSLovesU. You can also send us your picture and permission to share it. It would be wonderful for kids to see themselves and their friends taking care of their community this way.
The FDA voted to recommend approval for Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will meet this week to vote on its recommendation. Emergency Use Authorization may be announced soon (learn more about Emergency Use Authorization).
FCPS is collaborating with the Fairfax County Health Department, Inova Health System, and the Virginia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics to provide opportunities for vaccination throughout the community, in doctor’s offices and at schools.

On Tuesday, November 9th at 6PM, we will hold a Virtual Parent Coffee. The primary topic of the conversation will be around what it means to be a Title I school.

The basal resource review process is a unique opportunity to have a voice in the books and materials that create the foundation of instruction across the division. Encourage staff and families to participate with this message:
Be a Partner in Education: Participate in Resource Review
Basal resources are the books and materials the division purchases to create a common foundation for instruction across all schools while allowing teachers to make necessary adjustments to support every student’s unique learning needs.
This fall, you have an opportunity to advocate for resources that are accessible for all students, including those with disabilities; represent our diverse community, and support every student’s ability to thrive.
Find out more about basal resource reviews and how to share feedback.
Your child recently took the iReady assessment for reading and/or mathematics. iReady is used as a universal screener and progress monitoring assessment in Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS). Your child’s scaled score and domain performance is reported for each tested subject. More information about these domains can be found on the iReady Domain webpage (https://www.fcps.edu/node/42527).
iReady report letters will be available to view in ParentVUE in ParentVUE Test History by the dates listed below. If you do not have a ParentVUE account, you will be mailed a copy of your child’s score report during the same week they will be published to ParentVue.
Grades 1-2 the week of November 8th
Grades 3-6 the week of November 29th
If you have questions about the results in this report or about your child’s strengths and needs in reading or mathematics, please contact your child’s teacher. If your child qualifies for English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) services, please keep in mind that the iReady assessment is administered in English, and your child is in the process of developing English language proficiency. Contact your child’s ESOL teacher for information on your child’s English language development.
Wednesday, FCPS shared the 2022-23 Calendar Survey with the community and staff. Due to some technical issues, you may have had trouble opening the survey or it may have been redirected to spam or junk folders. We apologize for the inconvenience.
We will be sending out an updated version of the survey as soon as the technical issues are resolved.
We encourage you to complete the survey at your earliest convenience. Employees and students in grades 7-12 will be invited to take a similar survey as well. The results will be used to inform and support FCPS staff as well as the Fairfax County School Board as they work to adopt the 2022-23 calendar. All responses are confidential. If you have any questions about the survey, please email FCPSsurvey@fcps.edu.
Also, mark your calendars for a virtual Calendar Community Meeting on Monday, November 8, 7-8 p.m. Stay tuned for more details.
This year, FCPS is using a different process to develop the calendar. Learn about the criteria being used in the development of the 2022-23 calendar. about the calendar process in general.
