Oak View Review

Image of Saturday fun

Super Saturday - Thank you for coming!

Oak View thanks all families who joined us yesterday at the Book Fair and PTA Family Fun Day. It was wonderful to see so many families back at school again. We would like to send a HUGE thank you to our wonderful parent volunteers and teachers who gave time on Saturday to make this event possible! Our Oak View PTA made this FREE event possible and we are so appreciative of their support! We look forward to having even more events at school in the future.

Reminder: A second outdoor family Book Fair event will be held this Thursday, November 11 between 2:30 PM and 5:00 PM. All are welcome!

Oak View Veterans Day Parade - THURSDAY

Oak View has adapted our annual Veterans Day celebration and tribute to support an outdoor school-wide event! We invite any veterans or active duty military members of our community to join us and be honored at a short parade assembly around our outdoor track on Thursday, November 11 at 9:00 AM. Uniforms are welcome. Veterans and active duty are invited to walk our track as our students cheer you on and/or have a special seat and be recognized. We expect this event to last between 30 and 45 minutes for your planning purposes.

All families are invited to view this event from a safe social distance from our student body. Families will have a full view of the parade and are invited to take part in our morning celebration. We will have patriotic songs and performances from our music and band department.

We invite attending Veterans and active duty military to RSVP here and share your Oak View connection.

*As a reminder, Veterans Day, November 11 is also a 2-Hour Early Release Day and students will be dismissed at 1:15 PM.

*This will also be another opportunity for families to purchase from our Book Fair in the afternoon, between 2:30 PM and 5:00 PM.

Cooler Weather = Warmer Clothes

Oak View reminds families that as our weather turns cooler this week and we finally welcome some fall temps, to please send students with jackets/sweatshirts for school.  We still plan to maximize our time outside between lunch and recess. Students will be more comfortable if wearing the right attire. Thank you in advance for helping your student stay warm!

Children Ages 5-11 Now Eligible to VaxUp

Community clinics and local pediatricians are now administering the COVID-19 vaccine to children ages 5-11. Up-to-date information about vaccination opportunities will be available on the FCPS website

Student COVID Testing Information

Oak View will work with FCPS and Fairfax County Health Department (FCHD) to support testing of small groups of unvaccinated students who have parent permission via portal beginning November 15. This will be an opt-in option for families and more information will be sent centrally to families ahead of this practice beginning at schoolsPlease DO NOT contact school now with your preference as you will have to resubmit via portal when it is released. This is only information to support your thinking about this topic in advance of when you make your selection.

From email sent to all families on Wednesday, October 20:

Routine testing is a highly recommended strategy to reduce COVID-19 transmission and keep our schools safe. Following recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, at least 10% of students who are not fully vaccinated and have parent/guardian consent will be randomly selected for weekly testing.

Parent/guardian consent is required for students to be part of the testing pool. We will share more information about how to submit your child(ren)’s vaccination status and opt in to testing soon.

Test results will be kept confidential. Parents/guardians will be able to review results through the secure vendor portal. Parents/guardians may select an option to share their child’s test results with FCPS. Sharing results with FCPS is optional.

More information about COVID-19 testing in FCPS can be found on the FCPS website. As always, I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Seeking Superheroes - Be a Substitute!

Oak View has been fortunate to have a strong cadre of substitute teachers over the years. A strong substitute allows our teachers to step away from the classroom, knowing their students will be cared for and learning will continue. Many of our substitute teachers are parents of Oak View students (current or former). Being a substitute is a great way to support your local school. You have a flexible schedule and can work as much or as little as you would like.

FCPS is looking for kind and caring substitute teachers to ensure our students continue to thrive when teachers need to be out of the building. Subs save the day- apply today!

Thank You Fairfax County Voters for Supporting the 2021 School Bond Referendum!

Thank you to the voters of Fairfax County who approved the 2021 Bond Referendum for school renovations and improvements. More than 69.6% of those voting in the election on November 2 supported the $360 million bond referendum. We are grateful for the support shown for Fairfax County Public Schools and the 179,000 students who grow and thrive in our schools.

These funds will enable FCPS to proceed with construction, renovations, enhancements, and planning for improvements to 14 schools, plus land acquisition for a future western county high school. Projects funded by the 2021 bond referendum will provide upgraded, current facilities for our students, staff members, and the tens of thousands of Fairfax County residents who use the schools for recreation, meetings, and community events.

FCPS plans to fund the following school projects with bond proceeds.

Daily Symptom Check at Home

Thank you for your continued diligence in keeping your children home if they are sick or displaying any COVID-like symptoms. One of the most important prevention strategies guidelines is screening students daily for any signs of illness prior to leaving home for school. Any student who is ill or presents with COVID-like symptoms is to remain at home. The daily health screening questionnaire and all translated version can be found on our Health and Safety Guidance document at https://www.fcps.edu/return-school/health-and-safety-guidance-document. This document provides the details of the policies and protocols related to COVID-19, and it is continually updated to align with public health guidance as it evolves during the school year. Daily completion of the health screening is done on an honor basis and does not need to be sent to the school. More information is available here.
