Last weekend, six Latin 1 students, under the guidance of Latin teacher Cristina Procaccino, competed against 14 teams from this area in a virtual Latin trivia competition. Our team took second place! Kudos to Joshua Kohm, Noe Morales Mascarenas, Micah Peters, Leila Selassie, Ace Rawad, and Zeke Williams.
Despite COVID-related challenges and uncertainty due to returning fully in person this school year, we had a successful first quarter. We were able to resume activities that had been on suspension for the last 18 months. Dr. Brabrand charged us to come back committed to Affirming, Assessing, and Advancing our students. We are so proud of our Eagles and below is just a brief snapshot of some of the good things that happened:
- Global STEM classes gave presentations to FCPS visitors and mentors.
- Great Homecoming Week - student spirit and enthusiasm was an an all time high.
- Edison’s Marching Band placed 3rd overall, 1st place in visuals, and 1st place for color guard at the Virginia Marching Band Cooperative (VMBC) and South County Invitational.
- Our Choir gave an outstanding and in-person concert last month.
- Students have checked out over 5,00 library books this quarter, which is almost 50% of the total books checked out in the year before the pandemic began.
- Cyber students took their first round of Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) certification exams and 17 students earned certification.
- The Senior Class Movie Night raised $800 to help defray costs associated with graduation.
- Forty-six (46) percent of students (995 total) did not have a single tardy in the first quarter.
- EHS students visit Franconia Elementary School every Monday and Thursday afternoon to help second grade students with writing.
- The golf team won its first district championship since 2007.
- The boys’ cross-country team took second place in the district, and our girls’ team finished fourth.
- The freshman volleyball team are in possession of the “Battle of the Birds” trophy (win against Hayfield Hawks), a first for the freshman team.
We share your pride with our students!
This coming week is our opportunity to express how much we appreciate all our school psychologists do to help Edison students thrive. Thank you to EHS psychologist, Kayla Callister, for the critically important work that you do for EHS students.

FCPS will be holding a virtual Calendar Development Webinar on Monday, November 8, at 7:00 PM on Zoom to discuss how the 2022-23 school year calendar is being developed, and for participants to provide feedback on a series of questions related to this process. |
Please register online to attend the Calendar Development Webinar and indicate if you will need an interpreter (Spanish, Arabic, Korean and ASL). You will receive the webinar link on November 8, from “Office of Communication and Community Relations.”
On Thursday, November 11, students will be released two hours early at 12:55 PM. Before they leave, we will take time to reflect on and give thanks to all of the veterans in our community.
Report cards will be mailed home for all students next week. Grades will also be visible in ParentVUE starting on Saturday, November 13.
Our fall musical INTO THE WOODS opens November 11! This world-famous musical tale, based on Grimm’s Fairy Tales, features a cast of nearly 40 students presenting our first live theatre performance of the year. Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s award-winning musical sends famous fairy tale figures (Cinderella, Jack, Rapunzel, Charming Princes, big bad wolves, and a witch) on a quest to lift a curse and live happily ever after. But the road to happiness is often not what they expect. (Discretion is advised to parents of smaller children, some material might not be child-friendly.) You can join us:
- November 11 at 7:00 PM
- November 12 at 7:00 PM
- November 13 at 2:00 PM and again at 7:00 PM
Discounted advance tickets available now; you may also purchase tickets at the door. Go to www.edisontheatrecompany.org or the Edison Theatre eTix site
The most frequent question we receive, whether by phone or in person, is about attendance and absence procedures. The rules for reporting an absence, delayed arrival, or early checkout have not changed from past years and they are similar in all high schools.
Student out for the day? Going to be late? Need to be dismissed early? Use our online attendance form here: Attendance form; you may also submit an email to EdisonHigh.Attendance@fcps.edu, or call our 24/7 Hour Attendance Line: 703-924-8080.
Please contact us at least an hour in advance so that we have time to hear or read the message and have a pass delivered to your student’s location (FCPS regulations do not allow loudspeaker announcements or phone calls to interrupt instruction in a classroom). Your student will then check out in the attendance office before meeting you outside.
Student become ill at school? Students who are not feeling well MUST be checked out through the health room. A text from student to parent and vice versa is not acceptable for us to release a student. After a student reports to the health room, our health aide will contact you discuss the best course of action for your student. If the clinic aide does not need to speak to you in person, your student will then go to the attendance office with a clinic pass, where they will officially check out and their attendance record is updated. Only then can your student meet you at the front (Door 1) of EHS.
The PTSA will host a table at tonight’s Senior Night at the “Battle of the Birds” football game against the Hayfield Hawks, so please stop by and say hello. There, you will be able to find out more information about the All Night Grad Party (ANGP) and the PTSA, and be able to sign up for both.
Students and Parents: The student cap and gown is paid from senior dues. The first installment fee of $50.00 covers the cost of cap, gown, diploma & diploma cover.
With that in mind, the cost of the prom venue and other senior expenses has not been determined yet. As soon as the final amount is set, you will receive further information on the amount of additional senior dues. Senior dues are not prorated or waived for free/reduced status.
Please make the first installment payment of $50.00 through MySchoolsBucks.com via this link: MySchoolBucks.com
If you have not already done so, please go to the link below to order your cap and gown (we need your height and weight): Cap and Gown Order Form
