Educate Fairfax Grants Make a Difference for Students!

Educate Fairfax Grants are Helping Students Thrive

For the 2021-2022 school year, Educate Fairfax granted nearly $100,000 to 73 teachers around the county, to be used for projects that support FCPS Returning Strong. Check out a few of the ways these funds are impacting students!

Mosaic ES books

Mosaic Elementary School

Mosaic ES serves a population with students from 40 countries that speak 28 different languages. They value this multiculturalism as a source of strength, and requested funds to purchase books to reflect their diversity! A variety of books with different characters will help students develop and demonstrate empathy, compassion and respect for others.

Key Middle School

At Key Middle School, students are participating in "Books and Bites" with a grant from Educate Fairfax. Each month, the school pairs books with matching snacks to engage some of the most "reluctant" readers. October featured some spooky treats and special guests! Students go home with a free book to keep.

Fairfax Villa students

Fairfax Villa Elementary School

All 535 students can take advantage of the Educate Fairfax grant for books to help students with their reading and comprehension. Over 120 book sets were purchased that reflect the student body. As the reading specialist said, "Books serve as both mirrors and windows for children. Our students need to read books with characters with whom they can relate and who reflect positively on their self-image and give them access to understanding others who might be different."

South County Middle School

In the library at South County, grant funds have created a STEAM makerspace, with a magnet wall, Lego set and other supplies. The makerspace is not attached to any particular classroom, so students are free to stop by and collaborate with their peers to create and build together.

Wspringfield coffee cart

West Springfield High School

Students in the low incidence classroom used funds to start their own small business - a coffee cart that delivers orders to teachers around the building! Students are learning customer service skills, how to process orders and payments, and how to make and deliver coffee with a smile!

Churchill Road Elementary School

Funds were used to purchase items for a brand-new STEAM closet for the Kindergarten class. These young students will be introduced to STEAM concepts through many hands-on activities, all of which will help them grow their literacy, math, science and engineering skills.
