If your child will be out sick for the day it is important that you include ALL stymptoms your child is experiencing. This information is needed to understand why a student is absent and determine if there are any COVID like symptoms. On days with high student absences it also helps the health department determine if we have a large amount of communicable diseases within the school.
If reporting an ill child, please identify any of the symptoms below.
Feeling feverish or chills | Fever of 100.4 F or higher | Headache | New muscle pain | A new cough | A new sore throat | Shortness of breath or breathing difficulties | New loss of taste, smell, or appetite | Congestion or runny nose | Fatigue (more tired than normal or sudden onset) | Abdominal pain | Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea

With COVID prevention strategies in place, students are not allowed to use the water fountains. We have three water bottle refilling stations in our school that students can use to refill a water bottle. Please send your child to school each day with a water bottle so they can get water if needed. |
Information on scoliosis and methods for early detection.
What is scoliosis?
Scoliosis is an abnormal curvature of the spine. A spine affected by scoliosis has a sideways curve, making it appear more like an “S” or a “C” than a straight line. Untreated scoliosis can lead to limited motion, back pain, deformity, and in extreme cases, impaired function of the heart and lungs. Early detection and treatment may prevent scoliosis from progressing.
When should my child be screened for scoliosis?
Scoliosis most commonly occurs during the growing years, between age 10 and the time an adolescent is fully grown. Screenings should begin in early adolescence. Pediatricians should check for early signs during a routine physical exam.
What causes scoliosis?
The cause of scoliosis is unknown. Scoliosis is more common in females than males.
How is scoliosis treated?
In many cases, the curve is mild and does not require treatment. In some cases, treatment may involve bracing. Severe curves may require spinal surgery. The need for treatment is best determined by a trained medical professional.
What are the signs of scoliosis?
- One shoulder may be higher than the other.
- One shoulder blade may be higher or more prominent than the other.
- One hip appears higher or more prominent than the other.
- Unevenness of the waist.
- The spine curves sideways.
- The head is not centered over the pelvis.
If you have any concern that your child may have scoliosis, make sure that your child is screened by a health care provider. The school Public Health Nurse may provide screening for individual students at the request of the parent or guardian.

Helpful weekly tip is to be used at home with your child. These will help your child with their reading skills at home. By doing this along with your child you will be modeling best practices.
Ask your child for help
Ask them to “help” you while you are “busy” by reading the directions to recipes, grocery lists, texts from grandparents, etc.
Ex: When you are driving with your child, have them read the street signs or directions. Be sure that you thank them for their help.
