Dear Fairfax,

Oh my, how the weather has changed! Seems like we went from summer to winter in a blink of an eye! Hope you have a chance to enjoy the beautiful, brisk weather this weekend.

As we begin the second quarter I want to recognize our incredible staff here at Fairfax High School. Teachers, counselors, and support staff have been working incredibly hard for our students and this community.  Please take some time to let them know when you and your children have positive experiences. This can be done through the FCPS Cares or through e-mail and notes. While they don’t do it for the recognition, I know it is always appreciated. I also want to thank YOU all. It has certainly been a unique start to the year as we have all been getting settled in. And while I’m sure there have been a few bumps along the way, you all have worked alongside us the entire time. I am truly grateful to serve such an incredible community.

Another exciting week for FHS on the athletic fields! Our girls cross country team had an amazing race at the Occoquan Region 6C meet this past Wednesday with everyone achieving personal best times and the team finishing in 3rd place out of 16 teams participating. A special shout out to our top 15 finishers, Leilani Silva (3rd), Christina Elliott (4th) and Alexandra Hill (12th). This 3rd place finish sends our team to the VHSL State meet next Saturday at Great Meadows in The Plains, Virginia. If you are looking for something to do tonight here are two choices: Head over to West Springfield HS to watch our 8-1 Lions take on the Spartans for a 7pm football KICKOFF or head to FHS, Home of the Lions, to watch our undefeated field hockey team take on the visiting Robinson Rams in the Occoquan Region 6C Finals! I guarantee both games will be exciting!

In other exciting events at FHS, the FX Player’s present Puffs by Matt Cox. This comedy is a parody of Harry Potter. For seven years a certain boy wizard went to a certain Wizard School and conquered evil. This, however, is not his story. This is the story of the Puffs... who just happened to be there too. A tale for anyone who has never been destined to save the world This is a HIGH-SPEED, energetic show that doesn't stop! The show runs from November 11 to November 13 with shows at 7:00 PM.

The November principal’s coffee is Friday, November 12th at 7:30 AM in the library. I hope to see you there!

Best Regard,

Maureen
