candy

Candy, Candy, Candy

Every October, our oldest Tigers promote on the school news the idea of philanthropy – sharing your time, talent, or treasure with others.  Students are invited to share some of their treasure (leftover or extra Halloween candy) with Second Story (a refuge for homeless teens), the Children’s Hospital and military troops overseas (Operation Gratitude).  In the past, Fairhill students collected 322 pounds of candy to share!  We hope to do the same this year, so please encourage your Tigers to send in any candy they would like to share November 1st 5th. Thank you for helping us show that #OtherPeopleMatter!  Click here for more information.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Swanson.

Veteran's Day Flipgrid

Each year, Fairhill honors veterans by showing a Veterans Day slide deck that showcases staff members’ families on the morning of Veterans Day. New this year, we are inviting military connected Fairhill students to interview military connected family members for a Q&A session via Flipgrid. Students will be given a list of guiding questions and are welcome to be creative and encouraged to have fun when creating the Flipgrid.  The FlipGrid will then be shared with Fairhill classroom teachers to honor Veterans Day. Flipgrid is a familiar video sharing app that students can easily access and navigate and require only a handful of steps to create and submit a video.

If you are interested in participating in this optional activity with your child, or have a family member who would be interested in participating with a Fairhill student

  1. Visit: https://flipgrid.com/2c3eb103 - under “Have a guest password?” enter FESinterviews
  2. Recordings can be done from a laptop or through the app. Search for Flipgrid in the app store – video recordings have a 10 minute limit.

Included are some Q&A guiding questions:

    1. What branch of the military were/are you in?
    2. What is your rank, or what was your rank upon discharge?
    3. How many years have you served/did you serve?
    4. What made you want to join the military?
    5. What kinds of jobs have you done while serving in the military?
    6. What kinds of skills did you/do you learn and use in the military that you use in other parts of your life?
    7. Where have you been posted?
    8. Which is/was your favorite post and why?
    9. What would you say to someone who wants to join the military? Any tips for success for Fairhill students who are interested in a military career

Flipgrid recordings are due by November 8th.

Thank you in advance for your participation in Fairhill’s Veterans Day, 2021!

Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid

Beginning on October 13, FCPS asked all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid.

This survey was sent home with each student  If you haven't already, It is important for you to fill out and return the form for every FCPS student in your household.

Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's teacher. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the boxes in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned as soon as possible. All results are confidential

Early pick up

Early Student Pick-ups

On occasion you may need to pull your student from school early.  It helps our staff locate your child in a timely manner and have them ready sooner if we have  advance notice.  We understand that this is not always possible, but if it is please email  Fairhill ES Attendance  before noon so that we can communicate with the teacher earlier in the day.  This will let us know the precise location of your student when you arrive.  Also, please be aware that if you pick your student up after 3:30 p.m. you will not be able to leave before dismissal unless you park on Chichester Lane.  Our Kiss and Ride lane is full at that time, blocking the parking lot, and the buses are blocking the front driveway at that time.  Thank you for helping us with a smooth early pick up of your student.

Town Hall

Join us for our next virtual Town Hall on November 18th, from 5:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.  The topic of the Town Hall will be Reading.  A link will be sent out closer to the date.
