FCPS Vaccine Update

Last Tuesday, the FDA voted to recommend approval for Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine for children ages 5-11. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention will meet this week to vote on its recommendation. Emergency Use Authorization may be announced soon (learn more about Emergency Use Authorization).

FCPS is collaborating with the Fairfax County Health Department, Inova Health System, and the Virginia Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics to provide opportunities for vaccination throughout the community, in doctor’s offices and at schools.

Learn more and stay up to date with the latest news on our website.

Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid

FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid.

Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the boxes in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, returned by November 5. All results are confidential

Library News

Hello from the library!  Students LOVE graphic novels!  This comic-book format of pictures in panels with speech bubbles is really engaging.  Our school library has a whole range of graphic novels, from those for our youngest readers (one panel per page with a light story) to those appropriate for our older students (fully developed characters with a rich and thought-provoking story).  Graphic novels can “hook” reluctant readers as they read the story through the pictures and can serve as a bridge to reading traditional-format books.  If you would like to learn more about graphic novels, you could consider this online event by Scholastic on Wednesday November 3 at 7:00 pm – click this link to learn more: https://www.facebook.com/events/405566997811965/  You can always reach out to share thoughts with our librarian, Mrs. Oswalt (beoswalt@fcps.edu)  Happy reading!
