Discovery Garden Fall Clean-up Day!

It's that time of year again - the annual Mantua Discovery Garden Fall Clean-Up on Saturday, November 6 from 1-3 pm!

We hope you'll join us to learn more about the gardens and ways to volunteer with the committee and stay to get your hands dirty as we put the gardens to bed for the year. Weeding, pruning and general clean-up of the beds are the main order of business, and no gardening experience is necessary. We have a limited number of tools so if you have some, feel free to bring them along.

This is a family event so kid participation (with parent supervision) is also encouraged. We do hope to kick off a trial-run of our new 'Mantua Nursery' Project, where we will have available to families some of the perennials thinned from the beds this fall. This is a great opportunity to jump start your own native garden! While we will be outside, masks are encouraged. Please visit the SignUp Genius link to RSVP which will help us to better plan.

If you have any questions, please contact Karin Hudson at garden@mantuapta.org. See you in the gardens!

Food Drive

The Kids Care Club worked very hard to create this special presentation about the Mantua food drive. This video is less than 2 minutes long, so please take a moment to watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i15HH3uXyaI.

Through November 17th, we will be collecting food that supports families in our own neighborhood and school. The food drive collection box will be placed outside of the front office tomorrow afternoon. The classroom with the most donations will get to turn Principal Shannon into a mummy with toilet paper! Be sure your donation is clearly labeled with your student's teacher and grade so we know who to give credit to for the competition.

Parent Digital Consent Forms -- Action Requested!

The school needs your consent for some important digital resources your child might need to access for classwork on their laptop. Take a moment to review the online resources our teachers at Mantua may use with your child. After you have had a chance to review the resources, please use this link, to complete the Parent Consent form. You will need to have your child(s) ID Number.  If you have more than one child, you will have to complete the form for each child.

Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid

FCPS is asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid.

Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the boxes in Section 3.

All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by November 5

All results are confidential

More information is available online.

Mantua PTA Wish Fund 2021-22

Do you have a great idea that will positively impact our school community? The generous support of Mantua ES families, community supporters, faculty, and staff enables us to operate the Mantua PTA Wish Fund, an internal grant-awarding program founded in 2014. This grant is designed to fund valuable projects that benefit our school. A few of the past awarded projects are the outside track, music instruments, air purifiers, an installed refillable water station, balls and equipment for recess, snap circuits for Science classes, and supplies for the Garden Committee.

The PTA encourages teachers, staff, and current PTA members to submit Wish Fund applications beginning on Monday, October 25, with a deadline for receipt of Sunday, November 14, 2021 by 5pm. Project funds must be spent during the 2021-22 school year. The Wish Fund currently has a total of $10,000.00 to distribute for proposals this year. The application link is attached and we appreciate your creativity for, and commitment to, Mantua Elementary School and its students!

Any questions, contact Amy Sheridan at wishfund@mantuapta.org.
