ACTION Items
1. 2022-23 Calendar Survey
Did you receive this message from FCPS regarding the 2022-23 Calendar Survey? If not, look in your SPAM or JUNK emails. For you convenience, we are posting the message here and please complete the survey!
Dear Families,
First, we would like to apologize for the problems many of you experienced as a result of FCPS’ 2022-23 School Year Calendar Survey being misdirected to your email spam folder. Additionally, some families were unable to access the survey even after moving it from spam to their inbox.
We have been working hard to find a solution. Our vendor K12 Insight collaborated with FCPS’ technology team and determined the new FCPS cybersecurity enhancements may have resulted in forwarding some of the vendor survey emails to your spam folders or created a Gmail “warning banner.”
The vendor is implementing an update to their email system. The security changes can take up to 24 hours to update various internet email service providers. We will work with our vendor to perform additional testing tomorrow afternoon. With the fix in place over the weekend, we plan to resend the survey email Monday.
In the interim, if you do not see the survey in your inbox, please check your spam folder. If it is there, please mark the email as “Not Spam,” and it will move the survey email to your inbox. The survey email will have FCPS branding and an official seal at the bottom to verify that it has been vetted by FCPS.
If you are not able to activate the survey button or you never received a survey, please be on the lookout for another email on Monday.
Again, we apologize for this inconvenience. If you have any questions about the survey, please email fcpssurvey@fcps.edu.
Lastly, FCPS will host a virtual Calendar Development Webinar on Monday, November 8, via the Zoom platform. We are offering this as another opportunity for your voices to be heard on this important topic. Please stay tuned for details in the coming days.
Sincerely, Fairfax County Public Schools
2. Federal Impact Aid Survey
Ask your student for the Federal Impact Aid form that was distributed during last week. If you need a new form, please have your student ask for one at the main office. Forms are due Thursday, November 4th!
Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.
If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the boxes in Section 3 and sign/date the form. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by Thursday, November 4th. All results are confidential.
More information is available online.

3. Message from Dr. Floyd
Dear Woodson Families,
We did it! We reached the end of the first quarter!
This may have been the longest quarter ever, but we made it. Teachers will be working from alternate locations Monday and Tuesday but will be accessible by email.
The Woodson offices will be open 9am – 3pm both days.
I wish everyone a restful weekend with time to breathe and rejuvenate.
Try and stay dry today!
Dr. Floyd
4. Woodson Fall Festival on Saturday, October 30th
Woodson SGA/Leadership is holding its annual Fall Festival this Saturday, October 30th, from 12 Noon - 3PM on the outdoor basketball courts.
This event is designed for younger children (future Cavaliers) and is FREE of charge.
There will be a moon bounce, arts and crafts, pumpkin painting, games, prizes, fun, and snacks (both healthy and not so healthy). Kids are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes. We hope you will be able to join us for this family friendly event.
5. SIS Availability

6. Woodson Drama Presents: A Midautumn Night's Dream
An Adaptation of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, this play will bring the Shakespearean comedy to life with an autumnal twist! This production is suitable for all ages and a perfect introduction to Shakespeare for young students. This comedy features clowning, fairies, and ridiculous antics, all while running about 100 minutes long! These students have worked incredibly hard on this production, so come out and support your Woodson Cavalier Drama department!
Tickets start as low as $5! You can purchase your tickets here
Performance Dates are Saturday, November 6th – 2pm and 7pm
Sunday, November 7th – 6pm
Friday, November 12th- 7pm
Saturday, November 13th - 2pm and 7pm
New this year—the performance features a "pay what you can" sliding scale, with individual ticket price ranging from $5-$20. Please purchase a ticket for each individual seeing the show (including children & students), and choose the corresponding ticket price for each attendee that makes sense for you and your family. All proceeds will be invested back into the WTW Drama department to fund future shows, supplies, and educational events throughout the year so thank you in advance for your support! (If you are a household that would like to see the show and cannot afford the $5 ticket option, please reach out to the WTW Drama Theatre Director, Mr. Rushing, at csrushing@fcps.edu)
Please note that the performance will be located outside in Woodson’s tiered Courtyard so dress warmly! As this is outdoors, masks are recommended for audiences, but not required. Not sure where to find the courtyard? No worries—we will be there to guide you. Plan for a total performance length of around 100 minutes with a 10 minute intermission, and bring money for hot cocoa!

7. Hidden in Plain Sight - Parent Safety Presentation
A live presentation by Fairfax County Police Department
November 8th from 7 pm – 9 pm, Woodson Cafeteria A
The bedroom of an average teenager can look like a well-planned illusion. The trick to seeing through an illusion is knowing what is used to create that illusion. We recreate a complete typical teenager's bedroom and the first thirty minutes of the program invites the participants to "snoop" through the room to find items and objects that could indicate "risky behavior."
The Hidden in Plain Sight (HIPS) program is an IN-PERSON interactive program for adults to be educated about the signs of risky behavior in teens and young adults. It touches on drug and alcohol use, mental health concerns, eating disorders, risky sexual behaviors and more.
This is a hands-on learning adventure for PARENTS AND GUARDIANS ONLY! We guide you through a presentation that opens your eyes to what is right in front of you. This program begins with a setup of a teenager’s bedroom which includes close to 100 “red flags” that indicate risky behavior. Parents are encouraged to touch everything and identify our red flags. Times have changed since we were teenagers… do you think you can find them?
That is followed by an educational portion that includes a PowerPoint presentation detailing the red flag props that the room contained and how it is indicative of — or used in — risky behavior. We include up to date statistics and local trends, and law enforcement officers will share their experiences they have had in our community identifying risky behavior and helping to put kids on the right path to a healthy life. Let’s open the door to communicating with our teens!
Please RSVP to reserve your seat at this presentation. RSVP through this SignUpGenius link.

15. How do I check out my student from school?
Please let the Attendance Office know if you need your student to leave school early. You can notify Attendance 3 different ways:
- Submit the online attendance form and have your student pick up their pink checkout pass from the Attendance Office (E107) between classes or during lunch.
- Student brings a note to the Attendance Office before 9:45am. The student will be issued a pink pass to leave class at the appointed time. The note must include the following - student name, date and time of when student is leaving, and reason for early check-out, student ID, parent signature and contact number.
- Call the attendance line, 703-503-4800 and select Option 3. After leaving a message, please have your student pick up their pink checkout pass from the Attendance Office (E107) between classes or during lunch.
At the time of dismissal, your son/daughter will bring the pink check-out pass back to the Attendance Office for verification before meeting you outside.
If returning to school that same day, students must check in at the Attendance office before going back to class, even if it is between classes.
If one of the options above is not followed, we cannot guarantee a speedy checkout, so please make sure you notify the attendance office prior to picking up your son/daughter to ensure you make your appointment or commitment on time.
Due to staff responsibilities at the end of the day, we are not able to honor unannounced early dismissals within 15 minutes of school dismissal.
For full details on Attendance Procedures, please visit the Attendance page on the Woodson website.
