News Show

WLTS in the News

We were so excited to welcome a reporter from the FCPS Office of Communications and Community Relations to our school a few weeks ago!  She interviewed our awesome 6th grade news crew and published a feature on our school website and the FCPS website, with a video featuring our kids! We are so proud of our News Crew and the show they produce each morning under the direction of Ms. Carnahan, Mrs. Becker, and Mrs. Lanier. Please check out the news feature and video found on our website. Check out the story and video on our website or the FCPS website

Kiss and Ride Reminders

Help take care of the school community by engaging in safe drop-off and pick-up habits.

  • Traffic in the parking lot is one-way only.
  • Enter the parking lot by turning right.  Only staff are allowed to turn left into the parking lot.
  • Do not park where the kiss and ride line travels through the parking lot, as backing in and out of spots creates a safety hazard.
  • All cars must exit the parking area near the front loop entrance.
  • Exercise care when traveling on foot: use sidewalks and crosswalks.
  • Keep traffic flowing.  Do not park or move your car in a way that impedes traffic.

Progress Report Card Information

Your child’s Quarter 1 progress report demonstrates achievement, effort and citizenship skills after the first 9 weeks of a return to in-person learning. The purpose of any system of reporting to families is to strengthen the home-school partnership and to inform families about student progress. This 1st quarter was unique and presented new opportunities for teachers to prioritize social-emotional health and wellness, as well as identify academic needs through a variety of assessments.  Getting to know each child is the best way to match  instructional programming to student needs. School staff continues to assess and monitor students’ strengths and areas for growth using a variety of assessments. Your child will continue to have opportunities to demonstrate mastery towards grade level standards throughout the school year and your child’s teacher will continue to communicate your child’s progress.

For more information about elementary grading and reporting, please visit the FCPS website (https://www.fcps.edu/academics/grading-and-reporting/elementary-school ) or refer to the information included on the progress report envelope.
