New Student Drop-off/Pickup Location (Kiss & Ride)

Dear Jaguar Families,

Starting on Monday, November 8th we will be operating a new and improved Student Drop-off/Pickup (Kiss & Ride) location at Falls Church High School! The map below details the entrance at the intersection of Holly Hill Drive and Jacks Lane.  Cars will enter as shown, loop around the parking lot, and drop off their students at Door #4. Cars will exit the same way they entered.

The former Student Drop-off/Pickup (Kiss & Ride) location will now only be accessed by buses and Falls Church High School staff.

The new Student Drop-off/Pickup (Kiss & Ride) location will serve as our primary location throughout the renovation process!

2022 Virginia Summer Residential Governor’s School (SRGS)

We want to share an opportunity for current FCHS 10th and 11th graders. The Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) offers the opportunity for 10th and 11th grade students to apply to attend summer residential Governor’s schools in academics and Visual and Performing Arts (VPA). Students who are accepted into one of the programs will live in residence halls in one of the state colleges in VA for four weeks in the June - late July timeframe. To learn more about SRGS opportunities and the application process, visit the VDOE website and view the promotional video

To be considered for an academic or VPA Governor’s school, students must complete the steps below.

  • Complete the interest form sent to students’ email for either Academics or VPA. The form is a required part of the application process and is due November 9th. No late entries will be accepted. When completing the form, enter a personal email address and do NOT use an fcpsschools.net email address. VDOE cannot send communications to the fcpsschools.net domain.
  • Attend our school interest meeting which will take place at 10:30 am tomorrow, Tuesday, October 26, in the cafeteria. Attendance at the meeting is optional but strongly encouraged.
  • Complete the application for the specific program you wish to apply to and return to your school counselor who is supervising the Governor’s School application process.
    • Academic applications are due to the school on December 7, 2021
    • VPA applications are due to the school on January 28, 2022.

Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid

Beginning this week, FCPS will be asking all families to fill out a Student-Parent Survey for Federal Impact Aid.

Returning this form is important because information from this survey results in an additional $3 million in grants each year from the U.S. Department of Education. These funds are used to support all Fairfax County public schools and centers.

For each school-aged child in your household, please complete, sign, date, and return the survey to your child's school. If sections 1 and 2 of the survey do not apply to you, just check the boxes in Section 3. All forms must be signed, dated, and returned by November 5. All results are confidential

More information is available online.

The Fairfax County Youth Survey

10th and 12th Graders

The Fairfax County School Board and the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors work together to administer the Fairfax County Youth Survey.  The results of this survey are published each year online and are used by school officials, youth leadership classes, youth-serving county agencies, and local non-profits to determine the effectiveness of prevention and intervention programs offered in schools and communities. It is also used to identify changing trends and areas of need. The survey is anonymous and no individual information is reported.

You have the right to preview the survey and may deny permission for your child to participate if you desire. If a student is uncomfortable with any question on the survey, the student does not have to answer that question or may elect to discontinue the survey. While it is hoped that as many students as possible will participate, you have the option of completing the attached form if you wish to opt out your child.

The survey will be administered between November 15-30, 2021, in all 10th and 12th grade Advisory classes. A copy of the survey will be available to parents and/or guardians online at https://www.fcps.edu/resources/student-safety-and-wellness/youth-survey and in the school counseling office of your child's school.  An e-notfiy message was sent to all 10th and 12th grade parents on October 14th. If you do not wish for your child to take part in the survey, please complete the form attached to the parent letter and return it to your child’s counselor no later than November 15, 2021.

2021 School Bond Referendum

Election Day is Tuesday, November 2, 2021, and a school construction bond referendum (including Falls Church HS) is on the ballot.

New and renovated schools provide optimal spaces for teaching and learning–and the entire community benefits too. Our school construction and renovation programs help provide space for our students and educators. But, our buildings also serve the community as teen centers, recreation sites, polling places, places of worship, civic meeting spaces, School Age Child Care facilities, and more.

Before you vote, I hope that you’ll take a moment to read about how Fairfax County Public Schools plans to fund school projects with bond proceeds. You can learn more about the 2021 School Bond Referendum here.

A School Bond Referendum is on November’s ballot.

Vote, on Tuesday, November 2.  Polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
