COVID-19 Case Notification Update

Many families are finding it stressful and overwhelming to receive a new COVID notification email every time there is a positive case in their child’s school. FCPS has updated our process to provide families some relief.

Once a week, either on Friday or the last day of school for the week, school leadership will share an update if there were any COVID-19 positive cases confirmed in the school that week. The FCPS COVID-19 Health Metrics webpage will still be updated daily for families who wish to know about cases in real time.

There were two (2)  confirmed cases of Covid-19 this week at Bailey’s Upper.

Family Life Education (FLE)

FLE Information/Parent Preview Night

Family Life Education (FLE) curriculum is taught in grades K-12 and lessons include a variety of age-appropriate topics that promote parent involvement, fostering positive self-concepts, and provides coping mechanisms for dealing with pressure and stresses related to the students’ developmental stages and abilities. FLE this year will take place during the week of December 13-17, 2021.

There will be a Parent Preview Night for parents who would like more information and/or have questions regarding FLE instruction in Fairfax County Public Schools. Our Bailey's Upper Elementary School Virtual Parent Preview Night will take place at 6:00pm on November 17th, 2021. The meeting link will be in a future News You Choose. If you would like to opt your student out of FLE, the forms can be found linked below and paper copies will be sent home in the upcoming weeks.

Reader's Corner

Student

Glasgow Reading Invasion

Join us for a community Reading Invasion at Glasgow Middle School (4101 Fairfax Pkwy. Alexandria, VA 22312) on November 6 from 1:00-3:00 PM. To celebrate our school community’s love of reading, we invite you to bring something to read and “invade” the Glasgow field. This isn’t a book club - just a time to come together, to enjoy the act of reading. We will be providing free book giveaways, a story time for our youngest readers, and Kona Ice (https://www.kona-ice.com/flavorwave/) will be available for purchase. So, bring a blanket, your family, and enjoy the weather during this communal reading experience.

Sub And Save The Day!

FCPS Needs Substitute Teachers.

Substitute teaching is a great opportunity for stay-at-home parents, retirees, college students, and anyone who wants a flexible work schedule. Like many school districts across the region and country, FCPS is looking for kind and caring substitute teachers to ensure our students continue to thrive when teachers need to be out of the building. If you are interested in substitute teaching, you can set parameters for the days you are available, the grade levels you would like to teach, or the schools where you want to assist.

Interested In Becoming a Substitute Teacher?

The first step to becoming an FCPS substitute teacher is to fill out an application. Once an interested candidate’s application, orientation, and background check are completed and approved, hired substitutes can expect to step into a classroom within a week!

Learn more about the application process and requirements.

See Substitute Pay Schedule for the 2021-22 school year.
