What's Happening at Mount Eagle October 22, 2021

We finished up our Digital Citizenship Spirit Week with Pajama Day. Here are some of our Grade 5 students showing that they "don't sleep" on online mean behaviors. They stand up for doing what's right.

What's Happening at Mount Eagle

October 22, 2021

Quarter 1 Ends this Week

The first quarter of the 2021-22 school year ends next Friday, October 29. Dismissal will be at 1:30pm on Friday. As a reminder, all Head Start and kindergarten bus rider students will need to be met at their bus stop.

There is no school for students on Monday, November 1 and Tuesday, November 2. Teachers will be working on grades, planning and holding parent conferences.

Progress Reports will be available in ParentVue on Saturday, November 6. We will send home the paper copy in the Thursday folder the following week on November 11.

Parent Information Meeting for Advanced Academics: This Monday

A parent information meeting will be held virtually on Monday, October 25 at 6:30pm on Zoom in both English & Spanish.  Denise Meade, our AART will provide information about levels of service and examples at Mount Eagle, explain the screening processes, and answer questions about part-time school-based and full-time Level IV services. A link for the meeting will be sent out to families that morning. For additional information on the AAP Elementary Continuum of Services, please click here.

COVID Testing for Students Begins Soon

In support of our commitment to safety, Mount Eagle will begin optional COVID-19 screening testing students the week of November 8

Routine testing is a highly recommended strategy to reduce COVID-19 transmission and keep our schools safe. Following recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, at least 10% of students who are not fully vaccinated and have parent/guardian consent will be randomly selected for weekly testing.

Parent/guardian consent is required for students to be part of the testing pool. We will share more information about how to submit your child(ren)’s vaccination status and opt in to testing soon.

Test results will be kept confidential. Parents/guardians will be able to review results through the secure vendor portal. Parents/guardians may select an option to share their child’s test results with FCPS. Sharing results with FCPS is optional.

More information about COVID-19 testing in FCPS can be found on the FCPS website. As always, please contact Ms. Consolla if you have any questions or concerns.

Parent Conferences

Our parent-teacher conferences have begun and will continue through November 11. This is a time to hear about your child's progress and collaborate with teachers to make a plan to address any concerns, both academic and social-emotional. Thank you for being on time as teachers have a tight schedule.

Impact Aid Forms

FCPS uses the Student-Federal Impact Aid to identify federally connected students and to support our request for Impact Aid resources. All families received the form in their child's Thursday folder. Please sign and return it to school as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Graham in our front office. Thank you!

If Your Child is Sent Home with COVID Symptoms...

FCPS has worked with the Health Department to update the return to school procedures if a child is sent home from school with COVID-like symptoms. In order to return, the following must be met:

  • The student is fever-free without fever-reducing medication for at least 24 hours
  • The student’s symptoms are improving
  • One of the following is provided:
    • Proof of a COVID-19 Test
    • Physician’s Note
Note from a healthcare provider following a clinical evaluation stating the cause of symptoms is not COVID-19 and clearing the student to return to school.

As a reminder, please keep your child home if they are experiencing any COVID-like symptoms. If you cannot say "no" to all the questions in the daily health screening, please keep your child home. If they are feeling better the next day, they can return to school. But if they come to school and are later sent home because they show symptoms, then the above documentation is needed to return to school.

Staying Healthy at School

Our students have been doing an excellent job at wearing their masks and washing their hands throughout the day. As a reminder, parents are expected to keep their child home if they are not feeling well and/or present with any symptoms that have been connected with COVID. You can find the list of symptoms on the daily screening form here:

If a parent keeps their child home, the child can return to school as soon as the child is feeling better.  However, if a child comes to school and then is later sent home because they are showing COVID-like symptoms, they will need to get a Return to School form completed by a medical provider.

Thank you for staying in close contact with us. If at any time your child tests positive for COVID, please contact our principal, Ms. Consolla, immediately. We have an established and confidential procedure that we need to follow to ensure everyone gets the appropriate communication.
