Veterans Day

Veterans Day is a federal holiday in the United States observed annually on November 11, for honoring military veterans, who are people who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Students will be celebrating Veterans Day, November 11, with their individual classes. Parents will be notified by teachers if there are any activities within their classrooms. Hayfield Elementary would like to say thank you to all our veterans and their families for their service.

COVID-19 Testing for Students

In support of our commitment to safety, Hayfield Elementary School will begin optional COVID-19 screening testing students the week of November 8

Routine testing is a highly recommended strategy to reduce COVID-19 transmission and keep our schools safe. Following recommendations by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, at least 10% of students who are not fully vaccinated and have parent/guardian consent will be randomly selected for weekly testing.

Parent/guardian consent is required for students to be part of the testing pool. We will share more information about how to submit your child(ren)’s vaccination status and opt in to testing soon.

Test results will be kept confidential. Parents/guardians will be able to review results through the secure vendor portal. Parents/guardians may select an option to share their child’s test results with FCPS. Sharing results with FCPS is optional.

More information about COVID-19 testing in FCPS can be found on the FCPS website.

Security

In order to provide the most secure and comfortable setting for students, the following procedures will apply:

  • All students who are dismissed during the school day will be dismissed through the office and signed out. The parent MUST come to the office with photo ID to SIGN OUT the student. Children will not be called to the office until the parent/guardian has arrived in the office to pick them up. If someone other than a parent is to pick up a student, the individual must be on the student’s emergency care card or a note is necessary to verify the person has parental permission. No one under the age of 18 is allowed to sign out a student.
  • All visitors to the school are required to report to the office, sign in, show a photo ID, and display a visitor badge while on school property.
  • Although we have a door access system in place and follow FCPS policy on checking photo IDs, we WELCOME AND ENCOURAGE ACTIVE INVOLVEMENT FROM OUR PARENTS AND VOLUNTEERS!
  • All students moving from location to location within the school are under supervision of an adult or using the buddy system.
