Weyanoke Update for October 20, 2021

Photo of a group of students at Thomas Jefferson High school on a field trip

Fifth grade students took a trip to neighboring Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology recently. They had the opportunity to see the many tools TJ staff uses to engage their students in the sciences, including a planetarium, aquariums, and practical tools like those pictured here.

Family Market Night

Weyanoke Family Market Night

Welcome back! Join us Thursday, October 21, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for our Weyanoke’s Family Market!

Weyanoke Elementary School is partnering with the Capital Area Food Bank to offer monthly distributions of nutritious groceries to families of the Weyanoke community, free of charge during the school year.

This year Family Market Nights will be held outside as a drive-thru market through December. Walk-up services will be available for families without a car.

The CAFB will be providing pre-packed boxes/bags of dry goods and produce, one box of each per household.

This is open to all families who have students at Weyanoke Elementary.

Help us keep Family Market Night safe! Masks or face coverings are REQUIRED for market participation, and we ask all participants to maintain social distancing by keeping 6 feet or further away from others.

Household information (no names) and zip code will be needed at each Family Market Night. This information will be given to the Capital Area Food Bank.

Market days/times may be subject to change, due to the ever-changing health situation. Please keep an eye out for Weyanoke’s News You Choose for market updates, or visit our website https://weyanokees.fcps.edu

Feel free to contact: Dorothy Walsh - Weyanoke’s Family Market Site Coordinator at dlwalsh1@fcps.edu.

Stay safe everyone, and we will see you there!

INOVA

In 2021, three improvements have been made for Medicaid/FAMIS programs and their requirements. The 40-Quarter rule has been eliminated for lawful permanent residents, as they no longer are required to have 40 qualifying quarters of work. Adults 21 and over now have access to a new comprehensive dental benefit that includes regular dental visits. Lastly, a new FAMIS Prenatal benefit has been introduced for ALL income-eligible pregnant women, regardless of their immigration status.

Local bilingual Outreach Workers with Inova Partnership for Healthier Communities, provide free 1:1 assistance to anyone who wants to learn about, apply for, or renew Medicaid/FAMIS coverage.

Partnership for Healthier Communities (PHC) not only provides Medicaid/FAMIS programs application assistance, but hosts virtual events for clients to better understand the programs and what occurs after they are approved. To register for their baby shower or Medicaid workshop events, they have created an easy online registration form.

PHC has expanded their team across Northern Virginia and in partnership with Inova Cares Clinics for Families (ICCF), have team members in satellite locations at Annandale, Alexandria, Sterling and Manassas. At ICCF, workers offer application assistance for Medicaid and Inova financial assistance to cover their medical bills.

Outreach Workers are committed to providing you with a smooth application process and support, every step of the way. Partnership for Healthier Communities is easy to reach, whether through telephone, email, or their online referral form.
