Atoms Athletics and Activities (10/18 - 10/23)

Atoms Athletics & Activities

Atom Nation,

We hope you all had a great time at the Homecoming Dance last week! It might have been our best one yet. You all looked great and brought the moves.

This upcoming week we have some great opportunities to come out and support our Atoms. On Friday the football team takes on The Church (Falls Church) at 7pm here at home. It is a PINK OUT so be sure to come early, be loud, and WEAR PINK! Then on Saturday, our Special Olympics Atoms Athletes take the field for their first soccer game of the season. The games will be from 9-12 at Marshall High School. Come out to cheer on these awesome athletes!

Check out the schedule below for the full schedule of our fall sports and off-season activities.

Atoms Athletics Highlights

Our Atomic Dance Team has been nothing short of amazing so far this year. We want to give them a special shout-out for their performances at our Pep Rally and football games! Way to go, ladies.

Club Highlight - EEA

The EEA club is about creating a community for the Ethiopian and Eritrean community so they have a place to go where they can express their culture and talk about issues relating to their home countries. Everyone is welcome to our club if they want to learn about Ethiopian and Eritrean culture. We meet every other Wednesday at 3:15 pm. Our next meeting will be October 26th in the Bistro. This year, we are planning to do activities such as cooking, drawing, language practice, and short history and culture lessons on the countries and their tribes. Contact Ms. St. Clair, our sponsor, for more info, or just stop by our next meeting!

New Vaccination Policy for Athletes

Annandale Families,

Starting November 8, students who are 16 years or older are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or have a medical or religious exemption on file in order to participate in Virginia High School League (VHSL) winter and spring sports for the remainder of the 2021-22 school year.

Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination will also be required for participation in any other activity that requires a physical. This includes dance team and step team, as well as out-of-season practices and workouts. Unvaccinated students 12-15 years of age must provide a negative COVID-19 test weekly to participate in team activities.

Annandale is now accepting proof of vaccination or qualified exemptions for students.

Proof of vaccination is provided by showing the student’s vaccination card to Activities Office.  Please drop off a copy of the card as soon as possible.

Medical exemptions must be submitted through a letter from the student’s doctor, on the doctor’s office letterhead, stating the student has a medical condition that prevents them from receiving the COVID-19 vaccine. Students who are not receiving the COVID-19 vaccine due to documented health or medical reasons will be required to submit a negative COVID-19 test every week. To provide documentation of a medical exemption: [provide your school’s procedure]

Religious exemptions must be submitted using the Commonwealth of Virginia Certificate of Religious Exemption form and must be notarized. Students who are not receiving the COVID-19 vaccine due to religious reasons will be required to submit a negative COVID-19 test every week. To provide documentation of a religious exemption: [provide your school’s procedure]

Proof of vaccination or exemption must be submitted by November 1, 2021.

Weekly testing will be required for unvaccinated students 12-15 and those who qualify for medical or religious exemptions. The test will need to be either a rapid test or a PCR test. Home testing using over-the-counter testing products will not be accepted.

For more information about the vaccination requirement for student-athletes, email jellenberger@fcps.edu or visit the FCPS website.
