NOVA Visit at Cedar
On Tuesday 10/19 from 9:00-10:00 a.m., our NOVA outreach coordinator will be holding a Zoom meeting giving general information about NOVA to all interested seniors. Interested students will come into the library or cafeteria and view the presentation on a large screen. There will be time for Q & A as well. Please let Ms. Williams know if you plan to attend.

weCare @ school (weCare) provides parents with secure, web-based access to update their child's Emergency Care Information. Cedar Lane on November 2, 2021
Tuesday, November 2, 2021, is Election Day. The Fairfax County Electoral Board and City of Fairfax Electoral Board will be using 168 school facilities as polling locations. Cedar Lane is one of those polling locations. Students will be asynchronous on that Tuesday. Teachers will post assignments to be completed by the students.
Practice Police Interactions
On 10/23/21, The Arc of Northern Virginia is partnering again with the Fairfax County Police Department and the Fairfax County Office of Emergency Management to offer an opportunity for people with disabilities and their loved ones to practice emergency situations. Participants can engage in a practice police stop with real officers AND/OR a practice subject stop. This event is open to anyone with any disability or general anxiety about police interactions, regardless of where they live. These sessions are free, but preregistration is required. Cybersecurity event:
ODU is hosting a cybersecurity event: http://www.hackening.net/
“The Hackening” is a free-of-charge virtual cybersecurity and entrepreneurial- data themed Hackathon from October 23 – 29, 2021. This hackathon will feature various cybersecurity-based challenges including cryptography, forensics, data security/integrity, and web-exploitation, and is designed to facilitate learning and mentorship across various cyber disciplines.
VASTS Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars
For CURRENT 11th and 12 graders only: This is a fabulous program. Do not hesitate for your high school junior or senior to apply. Online application is due in early November.
The Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars (VASTS) program is an interactive on-line science, technology, engineering and mathematics learning experience, highlighted by a seven-day residential summer academy at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Va. Students selected to participate in the program are immersed in NASA-related research through interaction with scientists, engineers and technologists. The program is a partnership between the Virginia Space Grant Consortium, NASA Langley Research Center, The Commonwealth of Virginia and Industry.

The Virginia Earth System Science Scholars program propose to build on the success of the award-winning Virginia Aerospace Science and Technology Scholars (VASTS) program, a program which has offered dual enrollment credit, through TNCC, to over 2900 students since 2008.
